LENAPE MEADOWS HOME SCHOOL ORGANIZATION
As we are enjoying a wonderful year here at Lenape Meadows, it is time now to plan for next year’s HSO executive
board and committee chairpersons. We have been very fortunate to have the many volunteers we’ve needed, and
with your continued dedication we know our success will continue into the 2009/10 school year.
Please take a moment to read through the HSO position descriptions on the attached sheet and consider which
position(s) you may be interested in. New ideas are always welcome and volunteering is time very well spent!
Many committees can be run by more than one person, consider signing up with a friend. Keep in mind that on
this form you are volunteering to chair/co-chair (i.e. run) and organize the committee. At a later date, you will
be requesting volunteers to assist in carrying out the objectives of your committee.
Please indicate your preference below by marking "1" for your first choice, "2" for your second choice, etc. You
may also nominate someone for a position by filling out the statement on the bottom of this form. Once the
assignments have been made, you will be contacted by phone and a folder will be provided to each committee
chair containing information on how the event was run in the past. Please don't hesitate to call one of the

LENAPE MEADOWS HSO POSITION DESCRIPTIONS
PRESIDENT - Preside over monthly HSO meetings, meet with principal, and attend monthly district HSO meetings.
VICE PRESIDENT - Substitute for president and oversee all fund raising.
SECRETARY - Take minutes of meetings, handle correspondence, and distribute committee folders.
TREASURER - Manage bank accounts, give monthly reports.
ASSEMBLY COORDINATOR – Meet with principal, book age appropriate assemblies throughout the year.
ASTRONOMY NIGHT – Coordinate a night time astronomy presentation for 3rd grade students and families.
BAGEL BREAKFAST- Coordinate bagel breakfast one Saturday in spring. Send home flyers, order bagels, set up and clean up
before and after event
BOARD OF EDUCATION REPRESENTATIVE - Attend Board of Ed. meetings and report to HSO throughout the year.
BOOK FAIR – FALL/Spring - Coordinate dates with book company and school librarian, organize volunteers.
BOOKS & BEYOND – Coordinate motivational reading program for entire school. Runs 6 weeks Jan/Feb.
BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION – Responsible for collecting and redeeming Box Tops year round.
CLASS PARENT COORDINATOR – (all Grades) - Organize and oversee head class parents' activities throughout the year
including class parties, Sponsor a Family Basket at Thanksgiving. This also includes Books and Beyond reading program as well
as other programs throughout the year.
COOKIE/PIE FUNDRAISER -Coordinate entire fundraiser, distribute flyers, collect money and distribute orders.
CUSTODIAN DAY – Organize a day in spring to honor the custodians of our school. Order lunch, have children decorate the
DIRECTORY – Gather and organize data for telephone directory and coordinate delivery.
FALL FUND RAISER - Coordinate entire fund raiser, distribute flyers, collect money, and distribute orders.
FAMILY BUDDY PROGRAM-Disseminate information to LM parents to ascertain interest in being a “buddy” to new LM
families. Make matches between new and old families. Coordinated at the end of the current year so the families can be
matched by the time school starts in September.
FAMILY NIGHT- Plan an event for students after hours.
FIELD DAY - K & 1st, 2nd & 3rd - Coordinate activities with P.E. teacher and organize volunteers for special day in June to
promote physical fitness.
HOLIDAY GIFT SHOP - Set up shop for students to purchase inexpensive holiday gifts for family and friends.
HOSPITALITY - Coordinate volunteers to provide refreshments for monthly HSO meetings.
HSO APPRECIATION - Coordinate dinner/refreshments for end of year volunteer celebration.
HSO BOOSTER DRIVE - Organize booster collection in September to help fund HSO projects.
KID’S STUFF FUND RAISER – Distribute order forms to sell coupon books, collect money and distribute orders.
KINDERGARTEN CELEBRATION - Organize a special end of year celebration held in June.
KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION - Organize volunteers and snack for registration days held in early March.
LIBRARY COORDINATOR – Set up schedule of volunteers to help maintain library.
NATURE CENTER COORDINATOR- Organize volunteers to help clean up, plant and other necessary jobs in the back of the
Kindergarten wing throughout the year.
NEWSLETTER - Gathers information from HSO and Principal and compiles a monthly newsletter.
NOMINATING COMMITTEE - Consists of 3 people who are responsible for soliciting chair people for following year's HSO
NOTE CARD FUND RAISER – Coordinate with art teacher for students to design note cards, distribute order forms, collect
money and distribute orders.
PIZZA SALE - Coordinate pizza sale fund raiser with entire school district in January.
PLAYGROUND – Responsible for updating recess toys and games.
PUBLICITY – Send photos and press releases of HSO and school events to local newspapers.
SCHOOL BEAUTIFICATION – Decorate school seasonally.
SCIENCE DAY - Plan and run a multi-faceted science day program for entire school. Held in March.
SIMPLE SUPPER- Plan a night in late September/Early October where families bring their own dinner to school. Chairperson
will get volunteers to set up, clean up and organize fun activities for the families to participate in while getting to know one
SPIRIT DAYS COORDINATOR- Organize monthly spirit days where students wear their LM T shirts or school colors. Send out
reminders before event.
STAFF APPRECIATION LUNCHEON - Organize food, decorations and volunteers to cook and serve lunch in May.
STAFF HOLIDAY LUNCHEON - Organize food, decorations and volunteers to cook and serve lunch in December.
START OF SCHOOL PACKET – Assemble HSO informational packet for students to go home the first week of school.
START OF SCHOOL SUPPLIES-Coordinate , distribute flyers, collect money and distribute orders (April-August)
TEE SHIRT SALE - Coordinate fund raiser, distribute order forms, collect money and distribute orders.
THIRD GRADE CELEBRATION – Organize a special end of year celebration. Held in June.
WALK-A-THON – A main fund raising event. Organize a special day in October for entire school to promote physical
fitness and enjoy carnival type activities, bake sale, gift basket raffles.
