Treasurer’s Report: Beverly reported we had a positive month in November, even with plumbing costs. Beverly
has worked many hours on the 2010 proposed budget. There was a discussion and suggested changes on several
line items. Beverly will present the proposed budget again for a vote after a few modifications.
Motion to Approve: Vi Frazier Second: Brittany Forsythe Motion Carried
Old Business: Donna Cox reported on missions the church supports. We give to many missions, but few report
back. Galilean Home is the exception; they always keep the church informed and are thankful. The board tabled
the discussion. The finance committee will further investigate our mission giving and give a report to the board,
next month. Roger Ellis and Fred Rogers have planned a Men’s Ministry Kick Off, at the church, on December
12, Saturday, 11:00. A light lunch will be served. All men are invited and encouraged to attend. Beverly, Fred,
and Roger have been constructing a list of current addresses. The 2010 church directory will be complied and
may be ready by January 2010 business meeting. Donna Caplin will purchase a new visitor sign in book. Noel
will get a copy of the contract for the wedding chair committee to Fred. Fred appointed Brittany to serve as
Chair of the Wedding committee. Brittany reported that 17 people came to the Nov. 13 lock in. The Craft/Bake
Sale and Youth Spaghetti fundraiser was a huge success. A special thanks was given to Cindy Wellham for
organizing the event.
New Business: Harmony Day School proposal/request to use our lower room facility beginning August 2010, for
16 to 19 children, was discussed. Pruette Whitt explained the insurance coverage that the church currently has
as well as Harmony School Board agreeable to naming Church At Athens as additional insured under their
policy. Other coverage by Harmony was discussed. Our insurance as it stands will not change because Harmony
would be using less than 50% of our floor space for their school, if approved. Fred Rogers informed the
congregation of Harmony School, November 29. After much discussion a conditional motion was raised that
we approve the use of the church facility for Harmony Day School. The vote was unanimous in favor of the
motion. However, it was decided by the board that the congregation should have the final vote for approval of
the facilities being used by Harmony. The congregational vote will occur on Sunday, Dec. 13th. A contract for
the use of the facilities has not been drafted. It will have the stipulations for use.
Motion to Approve: Donna Cox Second: David Coomer Motion Carried
Brittany reported on the 2010 youth program, upcoming plans. For one Wednesday night a month, the youth
leaders want to have special worship music (Logan plays the guitar), themed night and have flyers for friends at
school. The 2010 youth events planned by Brittany and Josh include a ski trip in February, ice skating, creation
museum, youth help with adopt a highway in July, Shelby and youth help with God’s Pantry, VBS, and Fall
Festival youth activities. (Transportation issues of the youth, to these activities, have been a concern.)
Women’s Ministry: The women and two men went to the Galilean home on Nov. 7; had lunch, gave $250 and
took needed items. Christmas child boxes were done in one night. The new drop off site is now Porter Memorial
Church. Gwen was thanked for taking the wrapped boxes there for drop off. Women will prepare the Christmas
Fruit Baskets Sunday, the 13th.
Men’s Ministry: Kick-off Lunch and Meeting on December 12th, 11:00 to 12:00.
Senior’s Fellowship: There will be no senior lunch this month.
• Buildings and Grounds: Harold Elliot fixed pump for the winter. Jim and Cindy Wellham were thanked for
landscaping/beautifying the outside walkway area.
• Youth: Please see New Business for youth report.
• Membership: Betty Elliot reported sending 12 birthday cards and 7 misc. cards.
• Weddings: none; Brittany has volunteered for being the chair for the wedding committee.
Roger commented on recent baptisms. Roger will make a formal list of church goals by January service board
