Please monitor this throughout the placement to ensure that it is all achieved.

General Expectations
Did the course take account of your particular needs? Was there a balance between group-based work and individual support? On completion of course do you have confidence in your strengths and are you clear about areas that need to be developed? Are you confident that you are able to plan teaching, learning and assessment activities that meet pupils’ learning needs

Primary Curriculum
Foundation – do you have a secure knowledge of the principles, concepts and skills underpinning the foundation 6 areas of learning (you should have observed these being taught and had an opportunity for direct teaching experience in some of these areas)? KS1/2 – have you observed a minimum of each of the core subjects being taught and had an opportunity for direct teaching experience? Primary – have you completed a minimum 10 day school placement? Have you developed confidence in using Primary National Strategy? Have you been provided with knowledge, understanding, information and resources to refresh your experience in modern languages? Have you been provided with knowledge, understanding, information and resources to refresh experience in design and technology? Have you been provided with knowledge, understanding, information and resources to refresh experience in music? Have you been provided with knowledge, understanding, information and resources to refresh experience in religious education?

14-19 Curriculum
Do you know and understand pathways for progress in the 14-19 phase (including diplomas) Do you have a firm grasp of curriculum and assessment of KS4? Have you been given information on the national qualifications framework and the range of qualifications to which your subject contributes?

Primary & Secondary ICT
Are you clear about the main changes in expectation for teaching and deployment of ICT in classrooms? Have you undertake a needs analysis for ICT? Are you confident in the basic functions of ICT in the classroom and do you know how to teach using at least one of the most common current classroom resources? Do you now how ICT can reduce the time taken for administrative tasks? Have you been provided with sources for further information about ICT made available

Classroom Management & Inclusion
Are you confident in anticipating and managing pupils’ behaviour constructively? Can you promote self-control and independence? Can you identify and effectively support gifted and talented pupils?

Are you able to personalise lessons, including assessment for learning? Can you work collaboratively with specialist teachers and other colleagues? Do you have a secure knowledge of the 3 principles for inclusion set out in NC Handbook (setting suitable learning challenges, responding to pupils’ diverse needs, overcoming potential barriers to learning)? Do you have a sound knowledge of general principles set out under SEN Code of Practice? Have you acquired a clear understanding of the Children’s Plan and its implications for teachers, including Every Child Matters and extended schools?

Assessment
Do you know and understand uses of assessment and assessment procedures relevant to age range you are teaching (e.g. Assessment for Learning, Foundation stage baseline assessments etc)? Have you been provided with summary information on performance management policy and practice in schools; threshold assessment and inspection (including school self-evaluation)? Did you undertake a personal assessment at start of the course, including focus on strengths and areas for development?

School Placement
Was there regular contact between the school and EDS to monitor progress before, during and after placement? Were you given opportunities to reflect on school-based experience? Did you have a range of first-hand experience in classroom, including lesson observation, participation, discussions, team-teaching and fullclass teaching

Management & Career Paths
Were you given guidance on career path e.g. preparing applications, interview techniques etc? Was there support given for those wishing to apply for leadership positions e.g. role of CPD, role of middle and senior management Have you been provided with a reference (if required)?

Work/life balance
Were you given strategies for effective time management (e.g. helpful organisations, info on Workforce Agreement etc)?

General
Was the course sufficiently flexible to meet your particular needs? Was there a named course leader? Was home study appropriate and useful?
