TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT Induction Training begins day1 in the business and should continue throughout your career. WHY? o Acquire new skills o To improve existing skills they already have o Should improve the efficiency of the business o Improves staff motivation Training/re-training Given for a particular purpose Development Expanding your current knowledge or developing yourself in line with future needs. Training and Development CAN BE In-house or External (outhouse) INHOUSE TRAINING EXTERNAL TRAINING On the job training. Eg work shadowing/sitting next to Nellie. Off the job training Benefits – Get a good idea of the surroundings of the business and start to socialise with other members along side you. Members are getting hands on experience. Employee is getting paid while training. You can ask questions, familiar as you are in your own surroundings. Benefits – trained by professionals. Familiar as you are in your own surroundings. Cheaper than Off the Job. Fewer distractions than on the job. Benefits – less disruptions. May use professional trainers. May lead to a qualification. Costs – Cheaper than Off the Job as the member of staff is learning from another member of staff so the business does not need to hire anyone from an organisation. May learn bad habits from trainer. Quality Costs – May have disruptions from telephone calls ect. Not necessarily expert trainers. More expensive than in house. Members of staff have to take time out for their normal work. of work will not be as good as they are learning.
