Serials Solutions Offers New Custom Links for Article Linker
Article Linker Now Features One-Touch Export to Refworks and “Find in Print” Using WorldCat
Seattle, WA – December 5, 2006. Serials Solutions, a business unit of ProQuest Information and Learning, has announced the addition of two new customizable features to its OpenURL link resolver, Article Linker: one-touch export to Refworks, which allows the easy transfer of library citations to Refworks citation management software, and “Find in Print” using WorldCat, which locates print material for patrons when electronic content is unavailable. Both options can be easily added to Article Linker’s results page as customizable links. Serials Solutions’ Article Linker provides patrons with the best path from citations and references to full-text articles wherever they are available in a library’s collection. The straightforward interface delivers fast and easy access to articles from 57,000 unique journal titles in more than 800 full-text databases. Article Linker’s custom links guide patrons to additional resources, even when the target article is not available in the library’s collection. Developed in collaboration with OCLC, “Find in Print” with WorldCat expands Article Linker’s current array of customizable options for accessing content outside the library’s collection. “Find in Print” integrates into Article Linker using WorldCat’s ability to display library print holdings that are close to the patron’s location. With Article Linker’s unique link customizability, libraries can control their patrons’ experience in a variety of ways, including prioritizing custom links to resources or placing library-defined conditions on custom links. For example, a library may choose to display a link to “Find in Print” with WorldCat only if no online or on-site full-text records are found.

Article Linker’s newly enhanced one-touch export to Refworks enables the simple transfer of citation data from Article Linker to Refworks, an Internet-based bibliographic citation manager. Article Linker joins seamlessly with the Refworks interface to give users quick entry to easy citation storage and management. “The ability to export to RefWorks completes the circle by making it easy for our users to save references,” says Virginia Kinman, Electronic Resources Librarian for Greenwood Library at Longwood University, and one of Article Linker’s 572 subscribers. “It's a great feature and so easy to set up. I emailed support and asked to have a custom link configured. It was up and running within 24 hours!”

"Article Linker's custom links give libraries easy access to a wide variety of high-quality research resources and tools so that patrons never hit a dead end when searching for information,” says JR Jenkins, Group Product Manager at Serials Solutions. “Adding the functionality of WorldCat and Refworks further develops the ease of data discovery and documentation of citations through Article Linker." Serials Solutions guarantees a steady flow of updates featuring the most sought-after features and functionality across all Serials Solutions products. The SaaS (Software as a Service) model of hosted products mean that updates are distributed automatically to Serials Solutions customers without any local installations.
