Creating A Web Page in Google Pages
Getting Started 1. Go to http://pages.google.com 2. If you are not already signed into your account, enter the user ID and password in the sign-in box on the right. You should now see the Page Manager window. Click on the name of the page you want to edit. (The photo below shows the list view. Click on Grid if you prefer to see page icons.)
3. Once you have opened your new page, you may occasionally need to get back to the Page Manager window. There is always a Back to the Page Manager link on every page just below the Google Page Creator logo. Changing the Page Look and Layout 1. Click the Change Look link. Back to Page Manager link
2. Choose a new look from the menu and click Select to apply it to your page. (Click Preview first to see what your new page will look like.)
Google Pages 3. If you decide you don’t want to change the look, click the Back to Page Editor link located just below the Google Labs logo. 4. Click Change Layout. 5. Choose a new layout from the menu by clicking on the desired layout. Adding Text 1. Click on the link to the page you wish to edit. 2. To enter text, click in one of the boxes surrounded by dotted blue lines and type as you would in any word processing document. 3. Format your text using the tools on the left toolbar.

4. Click the Preview link to see what your page will look like. 5. Click the Publish button to publish your page for the world to see.
(Google automatically saves your page every time you make a change or switch to a new page, but you must click the Publish button in order for people to see the changes.)

Adding a Photo or an Image Note: Your photo or image must be already saved on your computer 1. Place your cursor in the location you would like to add an image and click the Image button on the left toolbar.
2. Click the Browse button in the Add an Image window.
3. Navigate to the photo you want to insert and click on the file name. Click Open. (The screen shot shows a Mac window – your computer will probably show Microsoft’s My Documents.)
4. You should now see the photo’s file name and a rotating pie that indicates the file is being uploaded. When it has finished, you will see your photo surrounded by a yellow border in the Add an Image window.

5. (For those who want to know: Google automatically converts big picture files to smaller ones as it uploads them. If you don’t want them optimized for the web, you have to uncheck this setting in the Site Settings, which can be accessed from the Page Manager.) 6. The yellow border indicates the image has been selected. Click Add Image to add it to your page. Your page should now be displayed with the inserted image. 7. The default image size is Medium. If you want another size, select Small or Large. If you don’t like the photo, select Remove Image. Images are centered on the page and can’t be aligned to the right or left.
8. Click the Preview link to see your page and the Publish button to publish it. 9. If you want to add this same image to other pages a. Place your cursor in the location you want to add the image. b. Click the Image button in the left toolbar. c. Click the photo to select it (it is already uploaded, so you do not have to browse again). d. Click Add Image. e. Select the image size. Removing Photos, Graphics, and Documents from the Web Site 1. Open the Page Manager. 2. On the right side of the page, you will see a blue box labeled Uploaded Stuff. Click the trashcan next to any uploaded file name to delete it. Linking to Another Page in the Web Site 1. Select some text and click the Links icon in the left toolbar.

2. In the Edit Link window, you should see the text you highlighted displayed in the Text to display field. Select the radio button next Your pages. All the pages in your website will now be listed.
3. Click on the page to which you want to link. Click OK. 4. You will now see your page with the new link. Click test link to see if it links to the correct page. If it doesn’t, select change to select a different page.
5. To remove the link, simply highlight the linked text and click the Link button on the left toolbar. Linking to a Document 1. 2. 3. 4. Highlight some text on your page. Click the Links button on the left toolbar. In the Edit Link window, under Link to:, select Your files. Click the Browse button next to the Upload a file field.
5. Navigate to the document you want people to be able to download when they click on the link and click Open. Wait while the pie rotates.
Google Pages 6. You should now see your document highlighted in yellow. Click OK. 7. You should now see a link to the document on your web page with an option to test or change it. Link to a Web Address 1. 2. 3. 4.

Highlight some text on your page. Click the Links button on the left toolbar. In the Edit Link window, under Link to:, select Web address. In the field under To what URL should this link go? type or paste the web address to which you want to link. Once you have typed it, you can test it by clicking Test this link. Click OK.
5. On your web page, you will now see the linked words and will also see options to test or change the link. Creating an Email Link (This will open up a Compose window on the viewer’s computer with the linked email address in the To: field. I would advise against putting your personal email on a web page because you will get lots of spam.) 1. 2. 3. 4. Highlight some text on your family page. Click the Links button on the left toolbar. In the Edit Link window, under Link to:, select email address. In the field under To what email address should this link? type an email address and click OK.
Google Pages 5. You will be returned to your family page and given the option to change the email address. Adding Pages 1. Method 1: From the Page Manager, select Create a New Page. You may also create a new page from any existing page. The link is always located directly below the Google Page Creator logo. If you create a new page this way, don’t forget to create a link back to your the home page.

2. Method 2: This method creates a page and a link simultaneously. a. Type a name for your new page somewhere on your family page. b. Highlight the text c. Click the Link button on the left toolbar. d. At the bottom of the Edit Link window, you should see your highlighted text in the Create new page field. Click Add Page.
e. You will now see your new page name highlighted in yellow at the bottom of the list of web site pages. Click OK. f. Your web page will reopen with the option to change the link, test the link, or to edit the new page you just created. Deleting a Page 1. Open the Page Manager window. 2. Place a check mark next to the page you want to delete. 3. In the More Actions... dropdown menu, select Delete. (There are other options here that you can apply as well.)
