Electronic Pay Stubs
Frequently Asked Questions
1. Who will be receiving the electronic pay stubs?
All employees who currently have direct deposit and a HCC email (@harford.edu) address. All other employees will not be affected and will continue to receive their checks and pay stubs as usual.
2. Where will I receive the electronic pay stub?
The pay stubs will be sent via email from email@example.com to your HCC email (@harford.edu) address. Through OwlNet, you can remotely access your HCC GroupWise email account, giving you the convenience of being able to access your pay stub at home, work, or anywhere you have Internet access.
3. How can I open the e-document?
The email will contain an attachment in the form of a PDF file requiring Adobe software. When you double click on the file, you will be prompted to provide your assigned password. Your password will be the first 4 letters of your last name (or the entire last name if 4 letters or less) plus the last 4 digits of your social security number. (Example: Thompson would be THOM1234 or Dow would be DOW5678)
4. What if I don’t have Adobe?
All HCC computers have the Adobe software installed. If you do not currently have Adobe installed on your other computer, when you open the PDF attachment, it should prompt you to install the program. If not, you can download the Adobe program (at no cost) by going to: http://get.adobe.com/reader.
5. Will my pay stubs be secure?
Yes. The email will contain an encrypted attachment which will require a password to open.
6. Will the electronic pay stub look the same as what I am receiving now?
Yes. The new version is just an electronic view of your current pay stub.
7. Will the PDF file of my pay stub expire?
No. You may choose to save the attachment in your email or to your computer to view at a later date, or forward the email to your personal email address.
8. Can I opt-out of the electronic pay stubs?
No. All employees with direct deposit and a HCC email (@harford.edu) address will receive their pay stub in this manner. If you wish to discontinue your direct deposit election and receive a paper pay check and stub mailed to your home, you will need to complete an authorization form available through the Payroll office.
9. What happens when I am no longer employed by the College?
When your employment with HCC ends, your email account will be disabled. If any additional compensation is due to you, it will be paid in the form of a paper check and the pay check and pay stub will be mailed to your home address.
10. Why is Harford Community College making this change?
As part of the College’s efforts to model environmentally sustainable practices, the College has begun phasing out hard copy pay stubs and moving towards electronic pay stubs through IntelleCheck. This effort will reduce paper waste, labor and postage costs, and provide employees with a safe and secure method of receiving their bi-weekly pay stubs.
