									CISA 287--DESKTOP PUBLISHING MS WORD FOR WINDOWS 1 unit, 3 hours, 9 weeks

CATALOG DESCRIPTION A hands-on course covering features of the desktop publishing capabilities of a word processing program. Material will include attractively creating business and personal documents and preparing promotional documents, Web pages, and PowerPoint presentations. PREREQUISITE Recommended: CISA 186, Beginning Word Processing (MS Word) or fundamental knowledge of Microsoft Word. STUDENT MATERIALS Arford, Joanne and Judy Burnside. Advanced Microsoft Word 2003 Desktop Publishing, EMC Paradigm Publishing Company, 2005. Binder for your Portfolio Required: 3 ½ ” high-density floppy disks or a USB memory stick (recommended). OBJECTIVES Upon completion of this course, you will demonstrate the ability to use various desktop publishing features and applications of the Word 2003 program to prepare many different types of documents. EVALUATION Chapter Exercises: Chapter exercises must be completed. The chapter exercises that are labeled with a portfolio will be included in your portfolio at the end of the semester. The “Applying Your Skills” Assessment Exercises must be completed on a regular basis. See the recap sheet for specific assignment requirements. If assessments are not handed in weekly, you may be dropped. Portfolio: Portfolios will consist of all chapter exercises marked with a portfolio, Assessment exercises, and Unit exercises. All of these assignments must be placed in your final portfolio to receive proper credit for the portfolio. Excellent student portfolios in the past were presented in binders along with plastic sheet protectors and a table of contents.

Progress Test: One final examination will be given.

All answers to the “Reviewing Key Points” (RKP) must be initialed prior to checking with the key provided. “Applying Your Skills” Assessments are indicated as “A” on the recap sheet.
