Top Canadian Performing Arts College Begins 10th Anniversary Celebrations
Have you seen We Will Rock You, Mama Mia, the Lord of the Rings Musical or the Stratford Festival?...Then you have seen our grads! August 30, 2007 VICTORIA - The Canadian College of Performing Arts (CCPA) has announced the launch of its 10th anniversary season. “Greater Victoria can celebrate with us at our performances and gala events throughout the year, while the rest of the country will enjoy seeing the future stars of tomorrow as they perform across Canada and around the world,” said Janis Dunning, CCPA cofounder. Dunning and Co-founder Jacques Lemay are proud of the role they and their faculty have played in training some of the best talent Canada has to offer. In addition, the College brings new economic development to British Columbia and gives the region the opportunity to see the future stars of Broadway, the Shaw and Stratford Festivals and stages all over the world. In fact, CCPA students enjoy an 80-100% success rate finding performing arts contracts once they graduate, ranking with the highest in North America. Colin Jackson, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Epcor Centre for the Performing Arts sees the importance of the role the College plays in preparing students for careers in the arts: “CCPA is where young talent learns to soar as performers, as communicators as collaborators – as performing artists!” Both Dunning and Lemay have enjoyed stellar careers in the performing arts. Dunning is a veteran of a professional performing career in Canada, the United States and London, England. For 18 years she created, directed and starred in national television series for the CTV network. She has created cultural and multi-cultural works seen nationally and internationally. Ms. Dunning was recognized as a 2004 Community Arts Leader of the Year in Victoria. Lemay Internationally renowned producer and director of world class ceremonies such as the Calgary Olympics, the Commonwealth Games and several Royal visits.
