LUCKY ESCAPE AS CAR FLIPS ON ROOF
Early yesterday evening Great Western Ambulance Service (GWAS) received several 999 calls after a black Renault Clio spun off the southbound carriageway of the M5 between junction 14 and 15 (Falfield & Almondsbury), reportedly after a tyre burst. The vehicle rolled over, landing in a three foot drainage ditch. GWAS sent an ambulance and a rapid response car. The sole occupant, a 20-year-old man, was assessed at the scene and treated for minor injuries to the elbow and chest, and given advice should he develop whiplash. Paramedic Chris Hewett said: “The driver walked away from what could have been a horrific crash. This is due to two factors – modern car safety standards and old fashioned luck. The car ended up on its roof, which had been bent into the cabin, and the air bag and seat belts did their job by keeping the driver’s head from being injured by the intruding metal.” Please note: GWAS has no further information on this incident.
