Our Klock Werks Race team motto, “Where Passion and Fuel
Mix™,” may have very well been formulated in my early years as my parents ran a small town gas station where we resided in one half of the building. You can see from the photo of my Dad in 1966 as he prepared to head to Sturgis (one month before I was born) that our family’s love of motorcycles runs deep. A photo fastforward through my pedal bikes, jump ramps, and of course the Honda 50, that I charged the neighbor kids to ride so I could blow my earnings on comic books and bubblegum, brings you to our first magazine spread in 1997.

Operating Klock Werks first from a little single-car garage with no sign taught us a lot about pacing ourselves, customer service, and of course bikes – everything from Sportsters to Baggers. When you are located in the proverbial “middle of nowhere”, running a Kustom bike shop can be daunting, so you work on whatever comes through that door, including all your dad’s friends bikes. That scent of gasoline from our station in that little town of Emery, South Dakota, population 384, is still is one of my favorite smells. It was somewhere in 1996 that John “Quigley” Patton stepped into my life to help me finish a turbo-charged bagger for my dad. He quickly took me under his wing and taught me how to deal with Baggers in general. Past information I had garnered from my first FXR project in 1988 to my first Kustom FXR in 1990 was now paying off.

I studied guys like Donnie Smith, Arlen & Cory Ness, Dave Perewitz, Jim Betlach, Lee Clemens, Don Hotop, Tom Motzko, Grady Pfieffer, Tank, and many more in those early years. It was both fun and challenging. Now, to be in the same room with them at major events is just as exciting since I am such a fan of our industry! My respect for these guys and a desire to never fail kept me in that small garage “under the radar” for a lot of years.

us along, we were on our way. Yes, I still remember the days of a cheeseburger on the grill when time permitted during those long hours of a build. That is what small shops and motorcycle camaraderie is all about! Sometime in 2004 with the help of a bunch of friends and well wishers, we moved into our current location. And with a sign above the door, Joe Mielke and Laura my wife added to the staff, we were about to embark on the next stage of the adventure. Laura provided the focus for our still small group and more importantly pushed me to execute on ideas and designs I had previously held close and not given the light-of-day. Things like new software systems, a bigger building, and Quigley finally getting the dyno he’d been harping about all those years...Wow, this was really happening! As I write this today, we have tripled our employees, increased our Klock Werks line of parts and our bikes are featured everywhere. We still find time to give back to the community as we continue to speak at schools, give tours, and more. You’ll find our “middle of nowhere” just 4 hours east of Sturgis (yes I have attended since I was 8) in Mitchell, South Dakota – the home of the Corn Palace and Klock Werks. As you head down I-90, we invite you to stop in. As I reflect on the faith everyone has had in me including my mom, Karen, and my dad, Roger, and the questions answered by Quigley and all the others mentioned, it’s no wonder we are here today. It’s been the greatest support group anyone could ever ask for! When Laura and I began dating, the responsibility of two beautiful young ladies, Erika and Karlee, was part of that deal. Having never been married before, much less being a step-dad, the challenge of learning was again open, and what a blessing it has been. Many times I have told my employees that they are like family to me and that “it takes a team to win the Super Bowl” and these two prove even more all of those statements are true! Laura is someone who shares my dreams, and we were married in 2007. That was a blessing in itself. Having three of those beautiful speed demons in one house, that‘s another story! Our team has been to Bonneville the last three years, won the Biker Build Off on Discovery Channel with a Bagger, and is now distributing our own creations through Drag Specialties. That is as close to the Super Bowl as anyone could come. We have been blessed with great family, genuine employees and great experiences. Those can only continue if we take care of you as a customer and provide parts we are proud of as a team. The patent-pending FLARE™ Windshield was developed at Klock Werks out of a desire/need for stability at highway speeds and for racing on the Bonneville Salt Flats. The “hips” at the outer edge of the shield re-route the wind to add downforce to the front of the bike, which aids stability vs. using a stock shield. The Mo-Bagga signaled the first bagger Klock Werks built for Drag Specialties. Over the years they have asked amateur and pro builders from all levels to create bikes worthy of carrying the Drag Specialties name. After the success of the Little Blue Bobber, our first ever build for Drag Specialties, that graced the cover of the FatBook in 2006, we were honored when they called on us again. Mo-Bagga was named after, and the first bike fitted with, our 180 Mo-Tire kit. This kit fits a 180 tire in a stock swingarm with no ridiculous offsets to affect the ride. We must have known something as the factory has now dubbed it the stock size for new models in 2009. Built on an existing factory dresser style, this bike also featured the Fullback Bag Extensions giving it a true Kustom car feel to the backside. The Benchmark fenders front and rear gave it a “slammed” stance so it seemed appropriate to follow the stacked panels and lines of the Lowrider Culture through the paint scheme and accent the lines even further. It also marked the finalization of an agreement with Autometer for a signature line of Klock Werks gauges, a proud moment in my career as well. Our Lower Fillers are constructed from 16-gauge steel and E-coated for rust and corrosion resistance and are designed to fill the void between the lower fender and saddlebags; a minor detail that makes a major impact. They are the only steel filler designed to be used with or without detachables. The detachable style is for use with OEM detachable accessories; available separately. Great to use in conjunction with Klock Werks Curvaceous Upper Fillers to smooth out that entire area. “WFB” has come to be a significant term in Klock Werks’ history, and future. In 2006, we were given the honor of doing a Discovery Channel Biker Build-Off and took our chances by building a Bagger. As the first and only, to build such a creature it was imperative that we pulled out the stops and made it a true standout. “WFB” stood for Way Fast Bagger. With a 124” S&S Motor, B2 heads, Baker DD6 Trans, Carbon Fiber wheels and more, it screamed speed! O.K., the wheelie bars didn’t hurt either! BENCHMARK FRONT FENDER MOUNTING BLOCKS

Less is more in this minimalist part that provides perfect spacing for your Benchmark fender project on Road King, Road glide, Street Glide or Ultra models. Besides being used with Klock Werks’ front fenders, they can also be used for a variety of custom applications. Machined from billet aluminum and are available in a chrome or raw finish. This bike began life as a scuffed-up 2004 Ultra. With a little loving care and the right Klock Werks sheet metal we were able to give it a true mid-sixties feel without sacrificing rideability or its great looks. The stance was created by using our signature Benchmark style fenders front and rear with a Frenched plate. Our new Oval LED Tailight was given an additional trim ring to add some deco flair to the project. It is of course rockin’ the Flare™ Windshield, our new Autometer Signature Series gauges and painted inner fairing. The color is a PPG mix we refer to as “Miedema Blue” with some white scallops that play off the wide whites and the smooth-lip wire wheels. It is running our new Stamped Tank Dash which gives it a stretched tank look without sacrificing seat change access. It has Rear Fillers and retains the use of a detachable backrest when needed. The exhaust is handled through our DoubleBack Headers and new Revolver™ Series Slip-On Mufflers. The tips on these mufflers scream quality while the sound is a deep throaty rumble that is minimized at cruising speed for everyone’s comfort. The bike also features a Danny Gray Seat, MaliAir breather, Floorboard Undercovers, our new Marker Lights and the Ergo handlebars. I always think its amazing with stock 16” wheels and a black frame, what a difference the right stance and combination of goods can make. As for the name, “Lucky 14,” it could be a rockabilly style edge, it could be a mystery, or it could be a good question for Dan Cheeseman! These fenders are thick enough to add rigidity to the front end by acting like a fork brace but can still be cut or shaped enough for an even more Kustom appearance. What began life as a 2001 HD Springer and a 1965 Cadillac have taken on a following of their own. The “Cherry Bomb®” Bobber was built to showcase that style of bike for world-famous photographer Michael Lichter’s “Bob’s Back” Tour in 2004 at the annual Sturgis motorcycle event. In a Twist-of-Fate, we found we had just 11 days to complete this build. It was at that moment that a call went out to long-time friend and customer, Greg Wick, to plead for the use of his 2001 Springer as a donor to our cause. He agreed and the phone calls commenced with the crowning pieces selected being the tractor seat, the downturned boardtrack style bars, and of course the Cherry Bomb® Glasspack muffler! It was a tribute to my dad Roger’s Chevrolet drag truck he ran on the street and raced weekends when I was little, it had those Glasspack mufflers and a Cherry Bomb® sticker on the glove box, eye level for a five year old! So too was the story of the “Bomb Daddy” Caddy that started out as an ugly green trade-in on a transmission swap from a customer. I had joked with the folks at Cherry Bomb® about building me a six foot Glasspack after showing the Bobber at SEMA and elsewhere in 2004-2005. Sure enough, they called me on it, explained the company was under new owners and making a comeback. We now had 7 weeks following our biker build-off to do our first car ever! Again, “it takes pressure to make diamonds”, and we set about stripping the old barge. It retains a refreshed stock motor and drive train, but now features shaved door handles, Air Ride Technologies suspension, Sony sound system, Steele Rubber products gaskets, full insulated Dynamat interior decked out in red leather, and of course, all new chrome. The crowning touch of course is the scallop paint design and the off-white wheels and the whitewalls on both of them! They have been seen on Spike TV’s Powerblock, Speed Channel, and in numerous magazines around the world. Most recently the bobber was captured as true art by Stefanie Azure-Sattler in a painting she created. As we get more into the Softail makeover market people tend to dig up our past, a great thing to do as we have built them to reflect the many stages of retro. We are all very excited about our new sheet metal, handlebars and exhaust for these bikes. “Of course,” says Laura, “these are two of my favorite vehicles and they really make me smile.”. What began life as a 2006 Cobalt Blue Street Glide is now dubbed the “Gear Jammer” for obvious reasons as you look over the graphics. Built for my business partner John Dean, it screams bulky muscle - or was that his profile? In this case, both bike and owner have a serious look on occasion. It features Renegade 18” wheels front and rear with the back pulling our 180 Mo-Tire kit in the stock swingarm. John prefers to show-off the Avon’s and kept with the stock bag length and a short fender. He too selected the new Oval Tailight with a matching set of LED Marker Lights in the filler panels. John and his wife, Luauna like to put on the miles and occasionally run a detachable Tour-Pak® which is one of the many options with our Wide Tire Kit. The motor is warmed-over and gives John plenty of reason to unleash the rumble from the DoubleBack Headers and the WFB™ 4” mufflers. The exhausts are something our team is very excited about, including their premium quality and sound with its true “Hot-Rod Rumble”.

This light is CNC machined from 6061 T-6 billet aluminum with a chrome finish, smooth recessed lens and internal prism. It features bright LED light for safety and function but generates virtually no heat, uses little power and lasts longer. The King style Mentele bars are specifically designed to fit the dimensions of the Road King gas tank but are also an option for you Softail riders looking for a slightly wider bar; when used on Road King they work with stock length cables and stock controls. All Mentele bars are dimpled for late-model style controls and predrilled for internal wiring; 08-09 King bars are notched for electronic throttle control. We offer three styles of Ergo Bars designed to cover a large spectrum of riders and preferred riding positions, all with a more relaxed, comfortable wrist position. They accept stock controls/housings and are predrilled and slotted for internal wiring. They are available wiyh show chrome or black finishes. Made in the U.S.A.
STANDARD ERGO BARS This style is close to stock bar height with a more relaxed wrist position and sportier stance. ERGO BACK BARS A relaxed cruiser model, perfect for the shorter rider or even for a taller rider wanting to kick back. They allow for a more relaxed seating position. ERGO UP BARS Designed for the taller torso rider or someone who prefers a taller bar. They feature a similar pullback to stock bars but the hand position is higher with your arms almost level rather than reaching down.

BAGGER MO’TIRE 180 REAR TIRE KIT

The ultimate MO (MakeOver) for a bagger allows the use of a 180 rear tire while using an OEM belt. You get the cleanliness and reliability of a belt drive without a lot of the work required with other wide tire kits as it does not require swingarm replacement or disassembly of the transmission. Kits include stretched fender, Curvaceous upper filler panels, (lower filler panels must be purchased separately), pulley, all necessary mounting hardware and gaskets. There is no need for an extended main shaft or offset primary which means the balance point shows where it is supposed to be, unlike other 200 Tire Kits on the market. Easy installation with the use of Klock Werks Signature E-coated, predrilled, stamped steel fender and fillers. Kits are available in 6” or 2” stretch (over stock length) with or without frenched license plate pocket. The Detachable 180 tire kits are for use with existing detachable trunk and feature slotted fillers. Requires use of Mo’ Tire chrome rack with spade logo that accepts OEM Trunk and hardware. The Mo’Tire Detachable Passenger Backrest with spade logo accepts OEM backrset pad and hardware. Made in the U.S.A.
NOTE: Kit Requires purchase of H-D OEM belt PART #40024-07 for 97-06 models and also requires purchase of an 18” x 5 1/2” rear wheel with a 3.485” pulley side hub.
