We recommend that you view the tutorial video before using this facility. It is a requirement that schools pass on their pupils’ data to subsequent schools in electronic format. To this end the DfES has produced a set of data formats known as Common Transfer files (CTFs) in a language known as XML which allow the transfer of data between school data packages. The DfES have also produced a website in the teachernet domain known as S2S which allows data to be transferred electronically via the web. The link to S2S can be found at www.teachernet.gov.uk. Target Tracker collects assessment data for pupils and is not an allencomppassin Management Information System (MIS). It is therefore very important that you transfer the data about the pupil and parent information stored in your MIS as well as the assessment data that is collected in Target Tracker. Target Tracker can produce CTF files which efficiently enable the transfer of the electronic data. The CTF can be produced using the XML processor accessed from the Target Tracker launcher. These XML files comply with the DfES interoperaabilit agreement relating to software providers. The XML Processor must be loaded from the Primary TT installation CD. The program can be run from the Target Tracker Launcher to create an XML file from any Primary or Foundation Stage data file. The XML Processor is used to convert Target Tracker files in to XML files. These files can be either Common Transfer Files (CTF), or the electronic return to the LA. The processor can also be used to turn an XML file into a Target Tracker file. Operation Make sure Target Tracker is not already running and click on the XML Processor option on the TT Launcher. The XML Processor screen will be displayed. Click on Choose Source File. Another form will be shown listing the options available to you. You can choose Primary Data Folder, Foundation Data Folder, XML Data Folder, Floppy Disk or search to find a file elsewhere on your computer. Creating an XML file from a Target Tracker file From the Source Folder screen select where your files are located. If your file is a Primary TT file, select Primary Data folder. If your files are stored in an alternative location, a memory stick for example, select Search. Once the file is loaded the software will recognise the type of file and present you with appropriate options. A Primary Target Tracker file can be used to create a CTF, and LEA end of Key Stage One file or a Key Stage One file to load assessments into an alternative system such as SIMS Assessment Manager. If CTF is selected the software will create a file for each transfer school as entered in the Pupil Wizard in Primary Target Tracker. LEA KS1 file creates the LEA return including the statutory assessments performed at the end of Year Two. These must be entered via the KS1 Data Entry Wizard in Primary Target Tracker. KS1 CTF produces a file which may be loaded into other systems to update the KS1 assessments. KS2 NAA produces a file which may be used for the NAA Key Stage Two return. Data must be entered via the KS2 Data Entry Wizard in Primary Target Tracker. Once you are happy with your selection click Produce XML File. It will take some time to create the file. Progress will be shown with a blue progress bar at the bottom of the screen. If errors are encountered the XML file will not be created. There will be an error message showing what the error was. If there are no errors, make a note of the XML file name(s). You will also be prompted to save the files to another location. This is optional. Close the XML Processor. If there are errors, the Print Error Log will appear highlighted in yellow. Clicking on this button will print the error report. If there are no errors a Print button will appear to allow the list of files created to be printed. Once the file has been produced exit from the program by clicking on the exit button. The XML Data folder may be easily accessed from the shortcut on the Launcher.
