PURPOSE The purpose of this procedure is to establish a consistent and documented method for cleaning restrooms. SCOPE This procedure applies to all employees in the Custodial and Grounds department of CRCSD. This procedure excludes showers areas and locker rooms. But does include restrooms contained within. DEFINITIONS 3.01 Shanty: Storage/custodial closet that is used to store all of the materials and tools used to clean assigned area. 3.02 Supply Closet: One or more locations that hold inventories, material and equipment used to restock Shanties. 3.03 Johnny Mop: coded sink or bowl swab/brush. One Johnny Mop Sinks only. Double Johnny Mop for toilets and urinals only. 3.04 MSDS: Material Safety Data Sheet that contains all necessary health, safety and end use instruction. 3.05 Wedge Mop Duster (Wedgies): Long handled duster with triangular head. 3.06 Extension Duster: Duster with extendable handle. 3.07 CRCSD: Cedar Rapids Community School District 3.08 Fast Draw Dispenser: Dilution management system…”Juicer” 3.09 Sprayer: In this procedure sprayer refers to pump up pressurized sprayer. 3.10 Spray Bottle: Hand held trigger sprayer. 3.11 OSHA: Occupational Safety and Health Administration responsible for establishing and enforcing workplace health and safety regulations. 3.12 PPE: Personal protective equipment. Goggles, masks, gloves, hard toe shoes and other equipment used to protect the employee from hazardous chemicals, blood born pathogens and other hazards. Refer to MSDS for specific recommendations. 3.13 Fixtures: Sink faucets, toilet/urinal flush mechanisms. 3.14 Restorative Cleaning: Deep cleaning procedures. Performed when daily cleaning is not able to clean to accepted daily standards. 3.15 Engineer: Leader of Custodial Crew at building level. 3.16 Custodian: Employee that is responsible for performing this restroom cleaning procedure. 3.17 Customer: Any person that uses the restroom. 3.18 Trashing: Emptying all trash receptacles. 3.19 Slop sink: wall or floor mounted sink located in shanty 3.20 Mop sink: wall or floor mounted sink located in shanty 3.21 Bag and Tag: Taking a non-working fixture out of service. Cover fixture with garbage bag and mark with “Out of Service” sign. PROCEDURE 5.01 Custodian goes to Shanty to get PPE and prepare supplies: 5.01.1 Barrel (with bag with cleaning supplies) 5.01.2 Broom 5.01.3 Wedge Mop Duster 5.01.4 Extension Duster 5.01.5 Dust Mop 5.01.6 Trash Bags 5.01.7 Wet Floor Signs 5.01.8 Sprayer filled with restroom cleaner/ disinfectant. 5.01.9 Expendables (carried in Canvas carry bag - Optional) 5.01.10 Dust Pan 5.01.11 Mop 5.01.12 Mop bucket filled with 4 gallons cleaner/disinfectant 5.01.13 Spray Bottle with Disinfectant 5.01.14 Paper towels 5.01.15 Soap 5.01.16 Toilet Paper 5.01.17 Sanitary Liners 5.01.18 Johnny Mops (both Sink and Stool) 5.01.19 Johnny Mop bucket with a minimum of 1 gallon disinfectant (Sink) 5.01.20 Johnny Mop bucket with a minimum of 1 gallon disinfectant (Stool) 5.01.21 Graffiti remover 5.01.22 Magic Eraser 5.02 Go to the restroom with supplies. 5.03 Close Restroom and place wet floor signs, leave mop bucket outside 5.04 Conduct visual inspection of lights, 5.04.1 Immediately replace bulbs if light is not sufficient to clean. 5.04.2 If light is sufficient the make mental note to replace lamp after cleaning. 5.04.3 If ballast needs to be replaced then contact Engineer. 5.05 Start “dry” process, top to bottom. 5.06 Determine if dusting is needed: 5.06.1 Has dusting been done this week? 5.06.2 Is there visible dust or cobwebs? 5.06.3 Are air vents free of dust? 5.06.3.1 Corner Duster 5.06.3.2 Extension Duster or Broom 5.06.3.3 Wet paper towel 5.07 Removal all trash and trash liners from trash receptacles including sanitary napkin receptacles. Put in new trash liners. 5.08 Sweeping: Is the floor wet? 5.08.1 If wet then sweep with broom and dust pan. 5.08.2 If dry then use dust mop and dust pan 5.08.3 Perform visual inspection while sweeping:

Checking for graffiti on all restroom surfaces. Including back of doors. Flushing and checking fixtures for functionality make mental note of malfunctions for reporting or fixing. 5.08.3.3 Checking toilet tissue dispenser condition and level of tissue. 5.08.3.4 Checking paper towel level dispenser’s condition and levels. 5.08.3.5 Checking soap dispenser condition and levels. 5.08.3.6 Finish sweeping and collect debris and dispose in barrel. Restock dispensers as needed. Dry process is finished. Now begin the wet process. Wipe down all dispensers and hand dryers with spray bottle of disinfectant and paper towel. Wipe down trash and sanitary napkin receptacles with spray bottle of disinfectant and paper towel. Apply disinfectant with a bucket and Johnny Mop to toilets and urinals Using separate bucket and Johnny Mop, apply disinfectant with a bucket and Johnny mop to sinks. Change Johnny Mop bucket solutions when visibly soiled. After Johnny mopping all fixtures use sprayer to spray inside and out the sinks, stools, urinals, and topically to fixtures, mirrors, visibly soiled areas of walls and partitions, under urinals, under sinks and around bases of toilets to ensure complete coverage but avoid pooling/puddles. PPE is required. 5.16.1 Spray any surfaces from bottom to top so that any product runs do not streak. 5.16.2 Do not spray over your eye level, near electrical switches, hand dryers, fire/smoke/heat sensors or electrical outlets. 5.16.3 Pay close attention to saturate hinges and seats on toilets and flush arms on toilets and urinals because they are soil collection points. 5.16.4 Flip up toilet seats and let air dry. Wipe down mirrors with white cloth towels. Using same towels, before partitions and walls dry, wipe where visibly soiled, let remaining surfaces air dry. Is graffiti present? 5.19.1 Use graffiti remover, magic eraser, or other material where necessary. Using paper towel or white cloth dampened with spray bottle of disinfectant wipe down any applicable light switches, doorknobs and push plates. Are drinking fountains near restroom? 5.21.1 If near restroom, clean drinking fountains by using spray bottle of disinfectant, using paper towels to remove any debris. 5.21.2 If not near restroom clean when convenient. Bag and Tag any non-working fixtures. If needed, make note to schedule restorative cleaning. Mop Floor: 5.24.1 If floor drain is present, empty Johnny Mop buckets with disinfectant down floor drain. If floor drain is not present then proceed to 5.23.2. 5.24.2 Remove all equipment and materials from restroom. 5.24.3 Using mop and mop bucket filled with disinfectant solution begin mopping at farthest corner from the door. Make sure to pay attention to agitate mop across floor and mop around bases of toilets, urinals and hit all of the corners. Make sure that any excess disinfectant is soaked up with mop to reduce the long term deterioration of fasteners. 5.24.4 Rinse and wring mop frequently 5.24.5 Change disinfectant solution when visibly soiled. 5.24.6 Mop toward exit.

If cleaning multiple restrooms then proceed to next restroom and repeat steps 5.02-5.21. Gather up all tools and materials and return them to the Shanty. If Johnny Mop buckets need to be emptied then empty buckets down slop sink. Rinse out mop in slop sink and wring out mop in bucket wringer. Set mop aside and rinse out bucket and wringer. Rinse out Johnny Mops and buckets in slop sink. Hang up if possible. Empty barrel in dumpster. Return barrel to Shanty. Put all chemicals and equipment in designated places in Shanty. Inventory: 5.33.1 Take inventory of supplies, tools and materials. Replace any mop heads or Johnny Mops that are no longer serviceable. 5.33.2 Pre-stock any applicable local storage areas 5.33.3 If any materials or supplies need replenished or replaced then go to Supply Closet and replenish. Inform Engineer of any shortages. 5.33.4 Replenish materials and supplies in designated locations in Shanty. Inform Engineer by note of any mechanical, electrical and restorative needs.

REPORTING 6.01 Inform Engineer by note of any mechanical, electrical and restorative needs. 6.02 Inform Engineer of any supplies and material needs or shortages 6.03 Report any vandalism, racist or hate graffiti, significant events to Building level main office and engineer. RECORD RETENTION All procedures will be kept indefinitely.
