							The Routen Wheel event, organised to raise money for the RNLI, took place on Sunday 27 July 2003 and was hosted by Portaferry Sailing Club and Killyleagh Yacht Club. Despite changing conditions the event as a spectacle was a great success. FOUR-MAN ROWING BOAT RACE for the 'LIFEBOAT BELL' 1st 2nd Portaferry Lifeboat Crew Newcastle Lifeboat Crew

Competitors and supporters were invited to a Bar-B-Q and prizegiving in Portaferry Sailing Club after racing, where Killyleagh Yacht Club amid much consternation from the other competitors deservedly retained the prestigious Routen Wheel. Portaferry had to be content with the equally prestigious shield for raising the most money by a competing club. The total amount raised for the RNLI on the day was £566.00
