Course Description: This course is designed to prepare the student with the latest tests and materials needed to pass the A+ Certification Exam. The A+ OS Exam includes OS Fundamentals, Installation, Configuration, and Upgrading, Diagnosing and Troubleshooting, and Networks. The A+ Core Exam includes Installation, Configuration and Upgrading, Diagnosing and Troubleshooting, Preventive Maintenance, Motherboard/Processors/Memory, Printers, Basic Networking. Required Materials:  Internet access is necessary to view the online curriculum through Cisco Networking Academy. o http://cisco.netacad.net o Students will be provided with a logon id during first week of class.  Lab manual: Cisco Networking Academy Program IT Essentials I : PC Hardware and Software Lab Companion, ISBN: 1587131382  LabSIM Manual A+ Core Hardware ISBN: 1-932837-00-0  LabSIM Manual A+ OS ISBN: 1-932837-01-9  Computer Technician Standard Tool Kit (Available at Office Depot or equivalent) Competencies and Course Objectives: Upon completion of this course the student will:  Demonstrate a knowledge of OS fundamentals  Demonstrate a knowledge of installation, configuration, and upgrading of PC hardware and software  Diagnose and troubleshoot hardware and software related issues  Demonstrate a knowledge of motherboards, processors, and memory  Identify basic networking terminology, topologies, and layers of the OSI and TCP/IP models Grading: Midterm grades will be an average of course works completed up to the Midterm Grading Period. Midterm exam will be cumulative, chapters 1 – 7. Final grades will be an average of course works completed up to the Final Grading Period. Final exam will be cumulative, chapters 1 – 14. Midterm and Final course works will include the following:  Lab Completion Grade Scale  Module tests A = 90% - 100% B = 80% - 89%  Skills-based exam C = 70% - 79% D = 60% - 69%  Midterm and Final exams F = Below – 59% Evaluations: Online chapter exams and final exam will be given when appropriate course work has been completed

You are responsible for all material presented in class, including announcements about course procedures. If unable to attend a class, students should attempt to contact the instructor in advance. Classes will also start on the scheduled time, if a student is late, they may miss some important information. It is recommended that student should be on time and attend every class. It is also recommended that students exchange numbers so in the event of a missed class they might obtain the information covered. Conduct: Students are reminded that NCC policy as to student code of conduct applies at all times. Further be advised that THE PRESENCE OR CONSUMPTION OF FOOD AND/OR DRINK IN THE CLASSROOM IS NOT PERMITTED.
