Reference and Outreach Committee Report of Activities, 2006-2007 Members: Virginia Cole, Angela Horne,Thomas Mills, Jim Morris-Knower (co-chair) Susette Newberry, Jill Powell (co-chair), Kornelia Tancheva (PSEC liaison) June 19, 2007 Meetings and Forums The Reference and Outreach Committee meets monthly and plans monthly open forum meetings. Their website is located at http://publicservices.library.cornell.edu/psa/ReferenceAndOutreach/, which includes their charge, members, agenda, minutes, reports, projects, etc. Listservers There are two listservers associated with this group: refoutlib-l and librefstats-l. The former consists of current committee members, the latter consists of committee members plus Linda Miller and Rick Silterra. A member should update the list membership as needed plus answer the questions that come in to librefstats-l about the Reference Statistics Reporting System. Technical questions that can’t be answers can be referred to Rick Silterra. The FAQ on the Reference and Outreach website answers some of the questions. CommonSpot – The website uses CommonSpot software. Jenn Colt-Demaree set up the page and can answer questions, but a committee member must enter in content. Here are some instructions: Members must be edited at http://publicservices.library.cornell.edu/psa/management/Committee-Members.cfm It's in a database because it feeds into a couple of different pages. If someone is on two committees, enter them twice, once for each committee. Meeting minutes: 1. Go to http://publicservices.library.cornell.edu/psa/ReferenceAndOutreach/ and login 2. Create a new page using the Meeting Minutes template. 3. Click the "Click here to submit events data" link that appears on the new page you created. Be sure to select the appropriate committee location - reference and outreach committee, enter the date, time, agenda, and minutes. 4. After you enter the data, submit the page for publication. The page that has all the minutes listed is generated automatically by Commonspot. Orientations The Reference and Outreach Committee coordinated and participated at a library booth in a number of orientations and fairs throughout the year.  RA Resource Fair, Appel Commons (in Aug and January)  Undergraduate Info Fair, Barton Hall  International Graduate Student Orientation, Statler Hall.  Graduate and Professional Student Orientation, Bailey Hall  PostDoc Research Day, April, Biotech Building In addition we have participated in the Library e-Services Fair, Libe Café, coordinated by the Instruction Committee. Many librarians also visit new faculty (with new faculty packets) each fall. Reference Statistics Reporting System The committee is the curator for the reference statistics reporting system (rsrs.library.cornell.edu), generates the random sampling periods, sends out reminders, drafts procedures, and answers questions about the system. Questions are sent to librefstats-l@cornell.edu. Technical questions the committee can’t answer go to Rick Silterra. Since collection development, administrative, and libit-l staff are inputting reference statistics into RSRS, it seems appropriate to send the reminders to cu-lib as opposed to cul-publicservices-l. Continuing Projects - The committee is working on an Ask-A-Librarian Bookmark, new horizontal poster for orientations, and a CUL reference blog (a separate blog committee has started). We have also collaborated with Access Services on marketing E-Reserves. The group also has the following subcommittees: Subcommittees       Documentation Committee Business Information Group Citation Management Committee Digital Reference Services Steering Committee Web Guide Working Group CUL Reference Blog Group Past Forums The Reference and Outreach Committee had a number of forums with many speakers this year on a variety of subjects.
