                               Making Money on the Internet

The internet has made overnight millionaires. The people that built Yahoo,
Google, YouTube, MySpace, etc. have made billions.

The internet is an open market that operates 24 hours a day. People are on-line all
over the world at all times. You can make money while you sleep, eat and breathe.
If you hit the right niche, you could wake up in the morning and check your bank
account to find that you make $64K the night before. And, no one knows what
color you are, whether you’re male or female, what you look like, what your habits
are ---. We are free from all types of bias. People will respond based on the
quality of your service or products.

What you know about the internet? What is interesting to you about it?

Do you but things on the internet? What types of things do you buy?

If you sold something on the internet, what would you sell and why?
A product (e-book, flowers, t-shirts, etc.) or a service (consulting, financial
planning, real estate, etc.?

What are you an “expert” at or very good at? Do you have extensive knowledge
about something?

Do people come to you for certain things?
         Are you the fashion queen?
Know how to solve life problems and give advice to people?
         Know about cars?
         Know about real estate?
         Arts and crafts? Finances?

Can you find a solution to a problem and offer it on the internet?

How much time and commitment are you willing to devote to your business?

                               _______________________________

As you develop your ideas, don’t be focused on the money that you can make,
instead enjoy what you are doing. It helps if it’s something that you have passion
for. It’s about the process of building your business and what you gain internally
from it.

Research, research, research. Everything you want to know is on the internet. Go
to different search engines and type in the information that you are looking for and
ask your question in different ways to get different results.

There are many search engines. Here are a few:

         Msn.com
         AOL.com
         Ask.com

Information about Marketing and Sales on the Internet

The internet contains an absolute wealth of information about everything! Some of
it is good, some of it not so good. Take what you need and leave the rest but make
every effort to learn everything you can.

How Can I Drive Traffic To My Website?

Publish Quality Content
Make sure you have something worth seeing on your website. Publishing quality
content can also help to attract traffic and will get people to spread the word.

Search Engines Can Send Traffic
Search engines crawl web pages constantly and index what they find. So whatever
is on your site becomes a part of the directory that gives results when people
search. For example: how to train a dog, where to buy wholesale products, etc.

Search engines create a catalog of the information on the internet.

Publish a Blog
Blogging is an easy way to get content onto your site in a way that search engines
can easily index the information.

Most blogs can be set up for free. Here’s a great sample blog. This blogger has
just quit his job because he makes so much money on the internet through his blog:
http://zenhabits.net.

Join Community Groups
There are many community group websites out there and forums (Plaxo, LinkedIn,
FaceBook, MySpace, etc.). Join a community, build your bio, post responses and
questions on the forums, add to your “friends” or “business associates” by asking

other people to be connected to you. Always include your website link in your
posts and people will check you out.

Advertise
There are many opportunities out there to advertise the content of your website.

Search Engine Advertising

Pay Per Click
Examples include: Google AdWords, Yahoo! Search Marketing, and MSN
adCenter. By advertising on search engines, you can bid on the advertising space
people see when performing searches on what they're interested in.

Advertise on Websites & Newsletters
Find sites that are relevant to yours and ask for reciprocal links. You can also take
out ads in people’s website newsletters and email newsletters.

You can also contact website owners who advertise on their sites to discuss a paid
agreement for an exclusive ad on their site.

Off-line
Consider advertising on whatever print materials you use, both at your physical
location and at materials you use for business promotion (business cards,
advertisements, etc.)

Build a Reputation
Some traffic building techniques are highly visible and easily measured. But
there's another that is less so but very important -- your reputation. The type of
word of mouth advertising that holds true in the realm of offline may even be
amplified online.

The main way to build a reputation that helps to drive traffic to your site is as
simple as providing a product or service that people find useful. But you can
further the cause by putting your name out there where people interested in your
industry tend to interact:

                                                                                     6.
Publish blog articles that are easy to link to and share with others, and link to other
blogs in your articles whenever possible.

Post highly relevant comments on others' blogs and in related forums.

Always be honest so you and your company are seen of one worthy of dignity and
respect.

Encourage your email subscribers to forward your messages, which should contain
a link to a page where the recipients can sign up easily.

Offer a free digital product from your site
When you can distribute something digitally, for free, it will spread (if it’s good).
If it spreads, you can use it as a vehicle to allow people to come back to you and
register, to sign up, to give you permission to interact and to keep them in the loop.
Many companies have managed to build an entire career around this idea.

What a General Sales Website Looks Like

People are emotional and always looking for a feeling. When you sell to people
you are selling a feeling – an emotion – whether it’s excitement, love, warm and
fuzzy, stimulating, etc. If you capture the emotion, you can sell something.

Landing page. This is the page you want people to go to once they click on your
ad. The purpose of this page is to get your visitor to take a desired action --
subscribe, fill out a form, purchase a product, etc.

Thank you page. This is the page that appears after your visitor has completed the
desired action. Anyone who gets to this page will have completed your desired
action.

Return Policy or Guarantee
Customers feel better when they see there is a way to resolve issues if they are not
satisfied. Would you buy from a site that didn’t offer some type of money back
guarantee?

Newsletter Sign-Ups from Your Website
All e-mail management services provide the HTML for a subscription form which
you can paste into your webpages, so the technical aspects of getting subscriptions
aren't difficult. The real issues relate to marketing.

Priority placement. Place the sign-up form prominently on your homepage,
"above the fold" (i.e., visible on the first screen without having to scroll). Graphics
and placement should draw the eye to this form. Getting subscriptions must be a
high priority for your site if you hope to succeed!

Multiple forms. Put a subscription form on nearly every webpage in your site. I've
put a subscription form at the end of every article to catch readers when they're
ready to take another action.

                                                                                      8.
Provide a rationale. In these days of information overload, you'll have to explain
the benefits of subscribing in a compelling way.

Provide an incentive. Offer a white paper, free e-books, entry in a contest to win
an iPhone, discount coupons, the promise of Internet-only specials -- something
that your subscribers value.

Word-of-Mouse. In your newsletter ask readers to encourage their friends to
subscribe. You can have a reader forward his copy, but you risk the friend clicking
on the unsubscribe link. Better yet, encourage use of the "forward to a friend"
function that e-mail management services provide.

Other Ways to Get the Word Out

Offline Subscriptions
If you have the kind of business where you contact your customers on the phone or
face-to-face:

Ask customers to subscribe as you ring up their orders, providing a small
registration blank next to the cash register or a bowl where they can leave a
business card to subscribe (and enter a drawing).

Exhibit in shows and actively solicit newsletter subscriptions.

Provide telephone guidelines for employees to explain how to ask for a
subscription during each call.

Display your domain on all printed materials with the benefits of your
newsletter -- on sales collateral, fliers, bags, business cards, advertising, etc.

Subscriptions from Other Lists and Websites
A final approach is to seek subscriptions from other websites and newsletter lists.

Ask for a subscription during online checkout. Everyone who makes an online
purchase should be asked to check a box to indicate his or her desire to receive a
free newsletter subscription.

                                                                                      9.
Co-registration. You find partners whom you ask to place your subscription form
on their "thank you for subscribing" webpages and offer to put their subscription
forms on your thank you page. Some companies provide e-mail subscribers at 25¢
and up.

Reciprocal plugs in complementary newsletters. Find newsletters you enjoy and
ask the editors to plug your newsletter to their lists in exchange for you plugging
their newsletters to your list. This works best when your list isn't too much smaller
than theirs.

Develop Email Campaigns

Build an Email List

Having someone’s email address is like having a little piece of gold. Allow visitors
to sign up to be on your email list. Develop an email campaign to keep them
interested and to keep them coming back to your site(s) for more products and
information.

It works like this:

    1. A visitor comes to your site, is interested in your product or service and
wants to know more or stay informed, so they will sign up to be on your
       email list.

    2. The first email says thank you and welcome to our news.

    3. A week later another email can be sent telling your subscriber that you have
something new to offer and you want them to check it out.

    4. If they buy, send an email to say thank you.

    5. Two weeks later, another email is sent out telling them about yet another
product or service and the chain continues.

Email Campaigns enable you to stay in touch with your customer and to
continuously renew your relationship and sales.

There are several companies that you can set up automatic email campaigns with.
Two very well known ones are: Vertical Response and AdWebber.

Processing Payments from Your Site

You will need to install a store, or build links to Paypal from your website.

http://Paypal.com is the most popular. They take .30 cents per transaction, plus a
percentage depending on the cost of what you are selling.

Google Checkout – 2% + $0.20 per transaction, and they give you $10 credit in
processing fees for every $1 you spend on Google Adwords for your site.

Here are others stores and payment processing companies that you can research:

Track Performance by Installing Analytics on Your Site

Analytic software allows you to track information about people accessing your
website. How many hits does it get, what pages people go to, how long they stay,
how they come into your site, what country, state and city they’re in, etc.

Google offers free analytic software that you can install on your website to create
these types of reports.

You need this information to learn what pages are working and what pages are not.
You can then tell what you need to change or enhance.

Pictured above is a very small portion of the Google analytics report.

Make Money With Ads

There are many sites out there that you can sign up to place ads on your site for
money. Every time a visitor to your website clicks on the ad and purchases
something, you make money.

Some of the most popular are: Google.com, Linkshare.com, CJ.com. Search for
others.

Sign up for an account, choose your advertisers and place the code on your site.

Each advertiser pays differently for sales, so check them out.

Buy From Yourself

If you set up relationships with places like Linkshare.com and
CommissionJunction.com (CJ.com), you get to choose from a variety of
companies, products and services. If there is something that you buy regularly or
even one time, consider getting an affiliate with them, put their link on your
website, then buy from yourself. You will earn the commission for the sale and get
a percentage of your own money back!

Best of luck with whatever you decide to do!

Keep it All In Perspective

A group of alumni, all highly established in their respective careers, got together for a visit with
their old university professor. The conversation soon turned to complaints about the endless
stress of work and life in general...

Offering his guests coffee, the professor went into the kitchen and soon returned with a large pot
of coffee and an eclectic assortment of cups: porcelain, plastic, glass, crystal - some plain, some
expensive, some quite exquisite. He told everyone to help themselves to some fresh coffee…

When each of his former students had a cup of coffee in hand, the old professor began to
patiently address the small gathering... ''You may have noticed that all of the nicer looking cups
were taken up first, leaving behind the plainer and cheaper ones. While it is only natural for you
to want only the best for yourselves; that is actually the source of much of your stress-
related problems."

He continued... ''Be assured that the cup itself adds no quality to the coffee. In fact, the cup
merely disguises or dresses up what we drink. What each of you really wanted was coffee, not
a cup, but you instinctively went for the best cups... Then you began eyeing each other's cups....''

''Now consider this: Life is coffee. Jobs, money, and position in society are merely cups. They
are just tools to shape and contain Life, and the type of cup we have does not truly define nor
change the quality of the life we live. Often, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy
the coffee that God has provided us... God brews the coffee, but he does not supply the cups.
Enjoy your coffee!''

The happiest people don't have the best of everything; they just make the best of everything they
have... So please remember: Live simply. Love generously. Care Deeply. Speak Kindly. Leave
the Rest to God.

And remember - the richest person is not the one who has the most, but the one who needs the
least.
