WKU shooting (western kentucky university shooting)
Wednesday's security scare at Western Kentucky University caused a lot of concern among students on campus. The first text message went out at 12:30 p.m. Central time, with a second one sent at 12:48 p.m. Students had to stay in their classroom or dorm room. WAVE 3's Scott Harvey spoke with several students about the lockdown. It was a very crazy and scary day for students at WKU, who were glad to get a third text message around 3 p.m. giving them the "all clear." At that point, students began to come out of their classrooms and dorms. Many took the chance to call family members and friends to let them know they were safe and tell them what they had seen. "We were all told to hit the floor. We heard people in the hallway coming through telling people we were on lockdown," said Craig Moss, a WKU freshman.
"I heard the drill and all of my friends came to my room and we just locked the door and stayed in there," said freshman Hope Waters. "I just saw fists swinging all over the place and I heard something resembling a gunshot," said Keith Brake, another freshman who witnessed the fight. "I said some works that I won't repeat on television and them I took off for the Mass Media hall. Students were glad to finally get out of lockdown. All of those we talked to commended the university for its handling of the situation and the way the text message system worked. Classes at WKU's main campus and the South Campus, where Bowling Green Community College is located, where cancelled for the remainder of Wednesday. School officals have announced that classes will resume Thursday.
