Salary: $12 per hour (18 hours per week)

Other: Training will be conducted

General:
The after school team leader positions are part-time, temporary, grant-funded positions
under the 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant. This position reports to the on-site
after school coordinator. The after school team leaders are responsible for leading a small
group of students in the daily after school activities at Prince Hall Elementary School. This
position pays $12 an hour and requires 18 hours per week. This job will begin on
approximately JuLY 21, 2009. Training and planning will be conducted in July and August.
The team leader positions will become 10-month positions in September 2008. July 2009
and August 2009 will be unpaid vacation months.

Responsibilities:
    •   Provide a positive, safe and nurturing environment for the children
    •   Support the on-site coordinator to make sure the program runs smoothly every day
    •   Set appropriate expectations for the children’s developmental level
    •   Develop lesson plans collaboratively with the with the on-site coordinator that:
            o integrate mathematics and reading into hands-on science
            o develop social and emotional leaning skills
            o meet the individual needs of the students
    •   Interact with the children during learning and play activities
    •   Use assessment tools to determine the students’ academic and social and emotional
         needs
    •   Collect appropriate data for program evaluation
    •   Communicate with parents
    •   Be respectful to the classroom teachers, principal, and staff
    •   Participate in staff development and training

Qualifications:
An associate degree, 30 education or human service credits, passing the School District of
Philadelphia’s test for high qualified support staff, or passing a mathematics and reading
test administered by the project director. A bachelor’s degree in education is preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
        •     Excellent oral and written communication skills
        •     A clear understanding of developmental needs of elementary age children
        •     A love of science, mathematics, and reading
        •     Dependable and flexible
        •     Ability to adapt and solve problems creatively
        •     Ability to collaborate with both internal and external audiences
        •     Able to multitask 

Conditions:

Position is: a) Temporary; part-time b) Grant funded and c) Training and home visits to be conducted.
