During the Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln wanted a day of giving thanks. On November 26, he announced that the last Thursday in November should be Thanksgiving. The Congress made it a national holiday in 1941.
Every Thanksgiving families and friends get together and have a feast. They eat turkey, cranberries, pumpkin pie, and other delicious foods.
On Thanksgiving Day, you will see parades with floats and balloons. Everyone gets the whole day off. But the most important part of Thanksgiving is that everyone gives thanks for food, clothes and family.
