Shipping, receiving & traffic clerks keep records of all goods that are shipped and received. Specific duties will depend on the size of the establishment as well as the level of automation. Shipping clerks are responsible for preparing and verifying all outgoing shipments. Some also move the goods from the plant to the shipping dock. Receiving clerks use the original orders and accompanying invoice to determine whether orders have been filled correctly. They may route shipments to the proper department, stockroom, or warehouse. Traffic clerks maintain records on the destination, weight, and charges of all incoming and outgoing freight.
