Six Sigma Black Belts are dedicated to tackling critical change opportunities and driving them to achieve
results. A Black Belt leads, inspires, manages, delegates and coaches colleagues and becomes expert in
assessing problems and fixing or designing processes and products.
Pre-requisites
Participants do not need any previous knowledge or experience with Six Sigma. They will need to identify a
real-life cost savings project relevant to their business to complete during the course. The project topic will
need to be discussed with the course presenter. This project will be used throughout the whole course and
should be completed within six months of starting training.
Here are some pointers on what to look for in a good first project:
• An existing process that is repetitive and controllable
• Recurring events
• A narrow scope
• Data is available or can be collected quickly (6-8 weeks)
• A process that is customer linked - critical to quality
• Process will continue to be used for some period of time
• Brings together resources from multiple functions with multiple perspectives
Certification
Those attendees who wish to be accredited as a Six Sigma Black Belt will need to:
• Attend all 20 days of training
• Come to Week One with a pre-approved project
• Submit a second project for assessment
