EAST COWES PRIMARY SCHOOL Grange Road, East Cowes, Isle of Wight, PO32 6EA Telephone: (01983) 292935 e-mail: admin.ecowesp@lineone.net Headteacher: Mrs Margaret J. Henshaw Friday 5th September 2008 Dear Parents, Carers and Friends, Welcome to the autumn term, I hope you all had a great summer. We extend a warm welcome to the new children who have joined the school; we hope you enjoy learning and making friends. We also welcome Mrs Bartlett, Mrs Cox, Miss Pudney and Miss Rorich who have joined the school team. School Organisation Up until Christmas, Mr Shore will be working with the onsite Family Learning Centre on Thursdays and Fridays starting next week. Mrs Cooney will be teaching in KS1 on those days. Mrs Cooney will also be working across the school on Tuesdays and Wednesdays providing time for other teaching staff to fulfil their wider professional duties. Mr Shore will remain the main class teacher for 1JS. The usual arrangements will be in place for PPA time. KS1 PPA will be on Tuesday afternoons, KS2 on Wednesday afternoons and Reception on Wednesday mornings. Mrs Gardner leads the ‘out and about’ activities that regularly take place during PPA time. Children may wear play clothes or bring them to change into. A good water proof coat is essential and we often request the children wear Wellington Boots. Coming into School All children who are coming to school should enter through the front door. This will be opened at 8.45am, school starts at 8.55am. To be punctual is to be polite. We ask that parents then leave through the door by the children’s toilets so there is a better one-way system. If children and parents in KS2 keep left on the slope this eases congestion there. At the end of the school day children in Reception should be collected from outside their teaching area. Children who are in KS1 and KS2 should be collected from the main playground. Thank you. Family Learning The Family Learning office has now moved and the team are part of the Community and Family Learning Service based at the Carnival Centre at Westridge in Ryde. The teachers and learning support assistants will still be working from the learning centre at the bottom of the playground. Team members Sharon Kennovin, Chris Groves, Sarah Teague and Kerry Baker can be contacted on 817280. Courses will start after October half term at the new Community and Family Learning Centre for the East Cowes Community of Schools at Osborne Middle School. Mr Shore will be working with the team helping them to develop Family Numeracy courses. Jobs in School We are looking for reliable cleaning staff. An application form can be collected from the school office.
