FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ROAD GLIDE & FAT BOB LEAD CUSTOM VEHICLE OPERATIONS LINE FOR 2009 Harley-Davidson Premium Custom Motorcycles Celebrate 10th Anniversary OXFORD, UK (July 22, 2008) – The pride and passion that define Harley-Davidson and its riders are prominent in the Motor Company’s Custom Vehicle Operations (CVO) range of motorcycles. As the ultimate expression of factory custom style, CVO models are hand-built with detailed craftsmanship and stand proudly among the most desirable custom motorcycles available. The 2009 model year marks the 10th anniversary of the Harley-Davidson CVO program. An effort that began a decade ago as a response to rider requests for higher spec factory custom motorcycles has evolved into the top class of its industry, proving that production volume is really the only limit when it comes to making Harley-Davidson® CVO motorcycles. “Features like bigger engines, exclusive accessories and custom paint and colours, combined with limited production quantities make the Harley-Davidson CVO motorcycles truly unique and inspirational,” said Matt Levatich, Harley-Davidson Vice President and General Manager, Parts & Accessories and CVO. “The CVO bikes were introduced to meet customer desires and they have fulfilled our riders’ ultimate dreams with miles of memories and great riding for a decade. We expect the unique CVO experience to continue for years to come.” The Harley-Davidson CVO line for 2009 includes the following four models: FLTRSE3 CVO Road Glide® FXDFSE CVO Fat Bob® FLHTCUSE4 CVO Ultra Classic™ Electra Glide® FXSTSSE3 CVO Softail® Springer® The Fat Bob is a first-time CVO offering, while the Road Glide, Softail Springer and Ultra Classic Electra Glide all enjoy a history in the program. The CVO bikes are based on Harley-Davidson factory models, but are then taken to a new level of customisation with an abundance of Harley-Davidson® Genuine Motor Accessories and unique, sumptuous paint schemes. FLTRSE3 CVO Road Glide® A sleek, lean muscle machine, the 2009 CVO Road Glide is a bagger loaded with style and attitude. From its lowered front fender and skirted saddlebags to its vivid paint and massive powertrain, the CVO team showed little restraint when executing the CVO Road Glide. Start with the unbridled power of the Screamin’ Eagle® Twin Cam 110™ engine, 1800cc of pure American V-Twin muscle and the largest engine offered by Harley-Davidson. Available only on CVO models, the Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI) Twin Cam 110 produces huge torque at 1 4000 rpm and features electronic throttle control and a heavy-duty, self-adjusting clutch with hydraulic actuation. It’s finished in black powdercoat with chrome covers, and features new “110 Screamin’ Eagle” badges on the air cleaner cover insert. A custom oil cooler has a chrome cover with the CVO logo. The CVO Road Glide rolls on the same all-new chassis that underpins all 2009 Harley-Davidson Touring models, based on a redesigned frame and swingarm for enhanced manoeuverability. The new Touring chassis also incorporates a new motor-mount system that reduces engine shake at idle, a new 2-1-2 exhaust system with a one-piece front exhaust shield, and a new 180 mm Dunlop® Multi-Tread rear tyre. Over this foundation CVO layers chrome and custom components. To achieve a lower profile, composite skirts are added to the saddlebag bottoms and wrap over the exhaust pipe outlets. Filler strips between the saddlebag and rear fender incorporate LED stop-tail-turn lights that replace the traditional fender-mounted lights and signals. To balance the bike visually front-to-rear, the front fender has been lowered with a new mounting bracket, and the fender covers a new 18-inch-diameter front wheel. The effect is to place the front fender skirt as low as is practically possible for street use. The CVO Road Glide rolls on 18-inch Blade chrome forged aluminium wheels front and rear. The frame-mounted, aerodynamic fairing is the most distinctive design element of the Road Glide, and it gets a full custom treatment from CVO. The inner fairing panel is colour-matched and carries gauges with spun-aluminium faces. The gauges are back-lit. The headlight area is revised with new trim that replaces the clear headlight cover used on the regular-production Road Glide. New headlight lenses are hardened. The fairing is topped with a black, low-profile wind deflector and trim assembly. Rider comfort begins with a new low-profile, two-up seat with Buffalo inserts and a matching passenger backrest. The new Touring exhaust system creates more space between the passenger and the exhaust pipe, producing less heat. The new frame increases passenger leg room behind the calves. Brembo® brakes with ABS are standard equipment, as is cruise control, two-speaker AM/FM/WB/CD/MP3 Advanced Audio System by Harman-Kardon®, and air-adjustable rear suspension. A chrome tank console has a push-button fuel door and a new insert with the CVO logo. The hand and foot controls are from the Rumble collection, with matching mirrors, saddlebag latches and passenger footpegs. Handlebars are internally wired for a clean look. The CVO Road Glide has a chromed front end, chrome billet rear brake and shift levers, chrome switch housings and master cylinders, and enough other chromed parts to keep this bike sparkling night and day. The 2009 CVO Road glide is available in three colour combinations, all with Ghost Feather graphics: Yellow Pearl & Charcoal Slate, Stardust Silver & Titanium Dust, and Electric Orange & Vivid Black. Features of the 2009 CVO Road Glide include: Rubber-mounted, air-cooled, Screamin’ Eagle Twin Cam 110 engine Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI) with O2 sensors 6-speed Cruise Drive™ transmission Active intake and exhaust Three new paint and graphics schemes 2-1-2 exhaust header pipe design 2 High performance clutch with hydraulic actuation Chrome, low-profile fuel tank console with push button fuel door and CVO emblem Rumble accessory collection: grips, footpegs, shifter pegs, mirrors One-piece, two-up custom seat with buffalo hide inserts 18-inch "Blade" wheels Brembo 4-piston front calipers with chrome screens and CVO emblem Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) as standard Air-adjustable rear shocks Harman-Kardon® Advanced Audio System with AM/FM receiver and CD/MP3 player Commemorative CVO ignition key FXDFSE CVO Fat Bob® Projecting super-duty pro-street presence, the new CVO Dyna Fat Bob rolls with a high-performance rumble and the flash of custom chrome. From its beefy front tyre, to its twisted Tommy Gun exhaust, to the arrogant flip of its bobtail rear fender, the 2009 CVO Fat Bob will stake its claim to a wide stretch of road. The CVO team took Dyna® styling in a new direction when they first launched the FXDSE Screamin’ Eagle® Dyna® motorcycle in 2008. For 2009, the CVO group gives the Dyna Fat Bob the CVO treatment – bold paint, brilliant chrome and a monster motor – to create a premium custom motorcycle loaded with exclusive features. New 16-inch Fang wheels also debut on the CVO Fat Bob. These cast-aluminium wheels feature a black powdercoated slotted centre that contrasts with a chrome rim flange with bolt-on “fang” inserts clawing over each slot. The brake discs and rotors are styled to complement the wheels. The front wheel carries a 130mm tyre with that distinctive, blocky tread pattern. On the rear is a 180mm tyre. Premium suspension includes lowered front forks and chromed rear shocks that have been re-tuned for enhanced ride comfort. Chromed from the wheel nut covers to the triple clamps, the front end of the CVO Fat Bob is topped with a chrome pull-back riser, chrome drag-style handlebars, plus chrome switch gear, hand levers, and clutch and brake master cylinders. Hand controls, forward-mounted footpegs, shifter peg and brake pedal pad are from the Ironside Collection. A new two-piece tank console is finished in chrome and Midnight Pearl with a special CVO medallion. CVO debuts another new material on this motorcycle’s saddle, which features a seating surface covered in Alcantara, a high-tech engineered material that looks and feels like soft, natural suede but exceeds Harley-Davidson standards for durability and comfort. The remainder of the seat is smooth black leather, and it’s finished with a recessed chrome Harley-Davidson medallion. The seat rests over a wide bobtail rear fender that holds a smoked LED tri-bar tail/brake light with a Midnight Pearl slotted cover for a dark and sinister look in the back. Below the distinctive Fat Bob fuel tank that gives this model its name rests the largest engine produced by Harley-Davidson, the Screamin’ Eagle Twin Cam 110. Available only on CVO models, the Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI) Twin Cam 110 produces huge and features a heavy-duty, self-adjusting clutch with hydraulic actuation and 6-speed Cruise Drive transmission. The CVO Fat Bobexclusive Tommy Gun 2-1-2 exhaust snakes around the engine before exiting through chrome blunt-cut mufflers. The header pipes, which are exposed through 3 the exhaust shield slots, are finished with a black coating. The powertrain is finished in CVO-exclusive granite powdercoat with chrome covers, and features new “110 CVO” badges on the chrome billet timer and derby covers. The CVO Fat Bob is available in three colour combinations: Sunrise Yellow Pearl with Platinum Quartz, Black Diamond with Fire Quartz, and Denim Granite with Electric Blue Fade – CVO’s first ever combination of matt and gloss paint finishes. In each case, the frame, swingarm, battery cover, electrical panel cover and coil cover are colour-matched to the main bodywork colour. The result is perhaps the most exciting touring motorcycle ever to roll over the horizon. Also in 2000, the first edition of the FLTRSEI Road Glide® was introduced, combining the latest touring design and Screamin’ Eagle performance parts. Initial annual production of CVO models was limited to about 900 units per model (compared to between 2,450 and 4,200 units per model today). Over the last decade the CVO team has produced a series of very memorable motorcycles, including variations on the Dyna® Wide Glide®, Road King®, Softail® Deuce®, Fat Boy® and Electra Glide®. In addition, the 2005 CVO program boasted the Screamin’ Eagle® V-Rod® with its 60-degree, 1250cc liquid-cooled V-Twin engine, followed in 2006 by the VRXSE Screamin’ Eagle® Destroyer™, designed specifically for drag racing with a 1300cc Screamin’ Eagle Revolution® polished silver powertrain. The Harley-Davidson CVO department consists of a select group of engineers and designers, supply managers and other staff, who work together with the HarleyDavidson Styling team to create these limited-production, custom motorcycles. The CVO models are then produced by highly skilled technicians in special assembly areas at the Harley-Davidson plants in York, Pa., and Kansas City. Harley-Davidson Motor Company, the only major U.S.-based motorcycle manufacturer, produces heavyweight motorcycles and a complete line of motorcycle parts, accessories and general merchandise.
