Volunteer Role: Digital Marketing Volunteer

The Fairtrade Foundation is a rapidly growing organisation which licenses the consumer label the
FAIRTRADE Mark in the UK to products that meet international standards of Fairtrade. Our unique
independent guarantee is helping producers in the South and consumers in the North to challenge
conventional trading systems that condemn millions to poverty and hardship.
The Foundation would not be as effective in its aims without the help of our team of volunteers.

As a sub team of the Marketing department, the Creative Services team produces, commissions and
distributes creative communications, across print, online and film. A major project for the team is Fairtrade
Fortnight 2010(22 Feb – 7 March) which centres around the theme of The Big Swap. The team is looking
for an enthusiastic volunteer who can provide support with its online work.

Commitment: At least 3 days per week for 3 months starting at the beginning of January 2010.

What will you be doing as a volunteer?

       Moderating and approving event submissions and registrations on the Fairtrade Fortnight microsite
       Moderating and creating content for story submissions on the site
       Maintaining the Fairtrade Fortnight Flickr account – reviewing and logging submissions and
       Cataloguing event images on our shared drive
       Other tasks as required

What skills and experience will you need?

       Excellent written English
       Meticulous attention to detail
       The ability to work using your own initiative
       Familiarity with social media/ networking sites including Flickr, YouTube and Facebook.
       The ability to work collaboratively with other team members.

What will you have learned / achieved by the end of this assignment?

    Contributed to the goals of the Fairtrade Foundation - one of the fastest growing social enterprises in
     the UK enabling increasing numbers of producers to build sustainable businesses in the developing
    Shared the Marketing Team’s success in building public awareness and consumer demand for
    Gained practical real world experience in digital media creation and distribution.
    A work reference on request.

What type of people volunteer at the Fairtrade Foundation?
Anyone who has an interest in Fairtrade! Volunteers range from students to retired business people; from
17 to 80 years of age!

What are the hours?
Flexible. The office is open 9:30am-5:00pm Monday to Friday

Unless otherwise stated, positions are based at the Fairtrade Foundation's offices in the Aldgate/ Tower Hill
area of central London.

Do I get expenses?
We provide luncheon vouchers valued at £4 per day if working five or more hours in that day
(excluding lunch) and refund off-peak travel expenses (maximum £10 per day) on production of a
receipt or ticket.

We regret that we are unable to assist non-UK residents who are planning to volunteer during a short
stay in the UK with visa applications, finding accommodation etc.
