No.14 Spring 2008 ithout a doubt, the MGM CityCenter Project is currently the biggest project in a city noted for its colossal ambitions, where every new project seems to surpass its predecessor. The $8+ billion mixed-use development is undergoing construction on 76 acres along the Las Vegas Strip. The CityCenter represents the most significant privately financed project in the U.S. at present. The project consists of a combination hotel tower, casino and convention center, additional luxury hotels, residential towers and a retail and entertainment neighborhood. Safeplace is proud to have been chosen as a CityCenter vendor. Because of the enormous size of the project and the variety of components, the vendor demands were especially stringent. All the models ordered for the project to date are top of the line: the Tiara Top Opening safe, the Magna 800 Wall Safe, the Magna 800 Digital laptop safe, and the Titan combination digital and card safe. The wide variety of models offered by Safeplace allowed us to meet the diverse demands of the project. Some 6,000 units are presently on order or have already been supplied. The CityCenter project consists of several different elements. The dramatic soaring hotel tower, casino and convention center designed W with MGM City Center by Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects will rise sixty-one stories from the heart of CityCenter, contributing an additional 4000 luxurious guest rooms to the city’s offerings. The internationally known Mandarin Oriental, characterized by fine design and matchless amenities, will offer both hotel rooms and exclusive residences. The Vdara Condo Hotel will be the CityCenter’s only condo hotel, offering some 1,500 condo hotel rooms and suites with expansive views of the city and mountains. All will be equipped with leading Safeplace models. Safeplace is no stranger to MGM. The Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas has been a veteran customer since 2002. This luxurious resort is home to over 4500 Safeplace units, while the Gold Strike Tunica in Mississippi contains another 1110 units. Across the ocean, the recently-opened MGM Macau has installed Safeplace in all 600 guest rooms. Safeplace values its partnership with MGM resorts and is excited to be part of the impressive CityCenter Project. SafeScoop is published by Safeplace for a select audience of international hoteliers. Safeplace was chosen for the Central Place Project over fierce competition for its quality and reliability.” Elsewhere in China, the Marco Polo Wuhan, due to open later this year, has chosen the Safeplace Tiara for its 375 guest rooms. This world class hotel is located in an urban waterfront park on the Yangtze River close to the Wuhan business district. Part of the Plaza Legend hat do the Beatles, Eloise, Frank Lloyd Wright* and Safeplace have in common? They are all a part of the illustrious history of the Plaza Hotel in New York City. First opened to the public in 1907, this French Chateau style building became a National Historic Landmark in 1988, one of only two hotels in New York City to obtain this status. Above and beyond the historical background of the Plaza, however, is the legend and mystique that have grown up around it. The Plaza has become synonymous with elegance and five-star luxury. In 2005, the Plaza was closed for a $400 million renovation. It reopened in March 2008 as a member of Fairmont Hotels and Resorts, with 282 distinctive guestrooms, including 152 pied-a-terres. Among the amenities found in every room are a concierge direct flat screen from which the guest can choose a variety of services, white glove butler service on each floor, a wireless tablet which controls contour lighting, heating and entertainment, 24 karat gold-plated bathroom faucets and accessories, and, of course, Safeplace in-room safes in every room. As befitting a five-star-plus property like the Plaza, the hotel ordered Tiara topopening safes in their own distinctive size and color and equipped with an internal outlet for recharging laptops and other electronic items. The “new” Plaza continues a century old tradition of luxurious hospitality. Safeplace is thrilled to be a part of the legend. *The Beatles stayed at the Plaza on their first visit to the U.S. in February 1964. “Eloise” is a character in a children’s book series who lives in a penthouse in the Plaza. Frank Lloyd Wright, the famous American architect, was a resident of the Plaza from 1954-59. W he Lotte Hotel Seoul is the largest hotel in Korea, with over 1,400 rooms. Located in the heart of downtown Seoul, the hotel prides itself on world class standards in its many restaurants, banquet, and fitness facilities, as well as personalized service for every guest. For its ongoing renovation project, the Lotte Hotel Seoul chose Safeplace Tiara Top Open safes in a custom-made size to fit guest room needs. In order to make the grade, the Tiara underwent a series of tough tests which it passed with flying colors. Safeplace’s South Korean distributor Won International worked with every phase of the decision-making process from the design team through purchasing to the front office. The Tiara’s unique opening mechanism and ease of use easily beat the competition. Four hundred and fifty units have already been installed with more on the way, with plans to install the Tiara in upgrades throughout the Lotte chain.
