Presentation

1. Brainstorm children’s ideas using the pictorial composition (see Appendix A) provided. Suggested questions: • What can you see in picture 1? • When does the girl have her breakfast? ... etc. Record the verbs on the board e.g. “wake up” “sleep”. 2. Ask the children about themselves. Suggested questions: • What do you do before coming to school? • When do you do your homework? … etc. Accept all answers. 3. Divide the chalkboard into two columns. 4. In the first column write the subject pronouns: He – She – It – Ahmed 5. Ask the question: What does (Name of one of the children who gave answers for step 2) usually do in the morning? 6. Write children’s answers on the chalkboard. 7. Highlight using “s” with the verb by underling the verb on the chalkboard. Example: Ahmed usually gets up early. 8. Repeat steps 5, 6 and 7 using different present simple key words: sometimes, often, usually … etc. 9. Let children work in pairs and tell each other about their daily routine.
Tip: 1- Insist on having all children participate. Concerning the shy ones, let them work in groups before they demonstrate in front of the class. 2- When giving feedback, address the whole class. Don’t address individual children. This will help weaker students to have more self confidence.
