UW-WASHINGTON COUNTY ANNOUNCES 08/09 FINE ARTS SERIES Season tickets are now available. West Bend, WI – A Guitar Quartet from Minneapolis, a River Band from Arizona, and a talented duo of Irish descent, are just a few of the visiting artists that will be performing at UW-Washington County this school year. The Fine Arts Series also includes a fall theatrical production (The Beaux Stratagem) and spring musical (Adrift in Macao), both produced and directed by Professor Brad Ford. Two talented area bands featuring jazz (Jack Grassel & Friends) and Celtic music (The Atlantic Wave) round out this year’s series.

Ticket prices remain very affordable at $12 for adults, $9 for seniors (over 62) and $9 for youth (under 18). Admission for UW-WC students is free, with campus ID. All performances begin at 7:30pm in the campus theatre (located on the second floor of the college at 400 University Drive in West Bend). Free parking is available in the student lot.

Season tickets for all seven performances are now available at a savings of 25% ($63 adults, $47 seniors and youth). The season includes five shows in the “Performance Series” and two theatrical productions. You can also “pick four” shows and save 15% ($40 adults, $30 seniors and youth). PERFORMANCE SERIES:  Jack Grassel & Friends Friday Evening, September 12 Two bands. The Acoustic band features Jack on standard guitar, Jill Jensen (voice) and John Price (bass). The Electric band features Jack and Kirk Tatnall (both on superguitar) and Sam Belton (drums). Grand finale with all six musicians and pre-concert piano music by Kyle Hayden. bohola Friday, December 5 Jimmy Keane (accordion virtuoso) and Pat Broaders (bouzar player and vocalist) comprise bohola. Back by popular demand, this duo will set your toes a tappin with Irish reels, jigs, slides as well as newly composed pieces. Reserve your tickets early! Santa Cruz River Band Friday, February 6 With deep roots in the Arizona soil, this talented trio performs an intriguing blend of vocal harmonies, original instrumental numbers and captivating stories that set the historical and cultural background to the songs. Minneapolis Guitar Quartet Friday, April 3 This talented quartet performs a wide variety of music with passion, style and musical sophistication. One of the world’s leading guitar ensembles, since its founding in 1986. Atlantic Wave Friday, May 1 Combine two fiddlers, a guitarist/singer and a bouzouki/bodhran player, add enormous talent and you have The Atlantic Wave. This area group performs traditional Irish songs as well as medleys and songs from Scotland and Cape Breton.









THEATRE: Two theatrical productions directed by UW-WC Theatre Professor Brad Ford:  The Beaux Stratagem November 13, 14, 15 (Auditions October 2) A restoration comedy written by George Farquhar, and adapted for the stage by Thornton Wilder and Ken Ludwig. It is the story of two fashionable young Englishmen, Aimwell and Archer, who have squandered their money. Their stratagem is to leave London in search of an heiress to marry so they can repair their fortunes. Adrift in Macao March 13, 14 and 15 (Auditions January 29) A musical comedy that takes place in Macao China in 1952 and features romance, intrigue and lots of laughs and silly lyrics. Written by Christopher Durang, it features iconic characters including men who carry guns under their trenchcoats and women who stash opium in their purses.


