DAY 3: BLED – LJUBLJANA – POSTOJNA CAVE - LOVRAN This morning meet your guide and driver in your hotel.  You will start to the Blade Lake and a traditional boat (“Pletna”) ride to the Virgin Mary Baroque Church, which stands in the middle of the island. The lake was formed after the recession of the Bohinj glacier. After the last Ice Age, the Bohinj glacier deepened the natural tectonic hollow and gave into its present form. Today, you will have a chance to explore the beautiful Bled Castle, which is also the oldest in the country. In 1004, the German Emperor Henrik II gave the Bled estate to Bishop Albuin of Brixen as a gift. The building was expanded and fortified since then and today there are several buildings that make up the castle complex, arranged around two courtyards, which are connected with a staircase.The most interesting of all the preserved buildings is certainly the chapel on the upper courtyard, which was consecrated to the Bishops St. Albuin and to St. Ingenium. It was built in the 16th Century, and was renovated in the Baroque style around 1700, when it was also painted with illusionist frescoes. Today the castle is preserved as a museum, where you will be able to see various exhibits depicting the history of the region. After truffle search demonstration we suggest you to enjoy the exceptional cuisine of the famous Zigante Restaurant. It’s owner, Mr. Zigante, has earned his place in the Guinness Book of Records as the one who has found the biggest (2.88lbs!) white truffle in the world. The restaurant offer truffle delicacies, as well as other Istrian staples such as Prsut (Prosciutto) and local cheeses and meats, complimented by wines from Croatia’s vineyards and the native grappa of the region! DAY 5: LOVRAN – ZADAR – KRKA WATERFALLS NP - SPLIT This morning meet your driver for your private transfer to northern Adriatic region of Istria. Drive from Split to Lovran takes 400 km (4 hours on motorway). On your way from eastern coast of Istria to the center of Middle Dalmatia you will have a stop in beautiful town of Zadar, situated approximately on half way to Split. Upon arrival meet your private guide for two and half hour sightseeing tour of Zadar (after the tour you may whish to have some free time for grub a quick lunch in some of numerous restaurants located in the old town). An ancient Greek foundation under the name of Iader, and later an important jewel in the Venetian crown as Zara, Zadar retained a partly Italian character until the twentieth century, and was held as a possession of the Kingdom of Italy between the world wars. Visit the Cathedral of St Donat‟s, the Benedictine convent of St Mary with its collection entitled „The Gold and Silver of Zadar‟ and retrace the Roman lay-out of the walls and streets of the city, viewing the largest forum on the East of the Adriatic. For centuries the capital city of Dalmatia and today the centre of the region, Zadar is a city with a rich heritage of world importance visible at every step. Our walking tour includes visiting:  St. Donatus‟ Church from the 9th century is the most famous mediaeval basilica and landmark of the city.  St. Anastasia Cathedral – a magnificent three nave basilica built during the 12th and 13th centuries in Romanesque-style.  The mighty fortification walls and the Land gate – once the main entrance into the city, was built according to a layout of Venetian architect Michele Sanmicheli in 1543, whilst the Sea Gate is an arch dating from Roman times. Up until the 16th century there was a deep moat in front of the Captain‟s Tower and City Wall.When the danger of Turkish attack became obvious a defensive dyke was built in its place. A long term siege forced the defenders to plan and make large amounts of fresh water available. Using the existing moat they built a large cistern with five wellheads. You will visit:  The town loggia and a clock tower - On the north side of the bottom part of the square is the town loggia with a clock tower from the 15th century, which together are the only remains of the former Governor's Palace. The Palace was already completed in the middle of the 14th century as an impressive building with four towers.  The town‟s main square - This square is the largest in Dalmatia , 4 500 square metres, and was previously bordered by gardens. The cathedral and the Bishop's Palace form the eastern side, and it is ringed by public buildings and grand palaces. On the north-west side the square extends to the Governor's Palace and borders the sea-board called Fabrika. In the middle of the square, in front of the cathedral, there is a large well from 1520. The square was fully paved only in 1780, while the area in front of the Loggia was already paved in 1537.  Arsenal and Hvar‟s theatre -The building of the arsenal was started in the 13th century as a warehouse for the communal war galley. In 1612 a theatre was built on the first floor of the arsenal. Built in measured Renaissance style, of moderate size and once standing in a luxuriant garden, it radiates harmony and sophistication. Through narrow streets visitors walk to the 15th century Franciscan monastery, where they will visit the impressive Renaissance cloister, the old refectory that today houses a collection of lace, manuscripts and books and the church with its remarkable collection of paintings.  Later today we will meet a local lady who will tell you everything about aromatic herbs and plants growing on the Island of Hvar and about hers products such as lavender or rosemary oil and bath. She will share her experience with you.  After we will visit Benedictine Monastery with its ethnographic collection and you will be able to discover Benedictine nuns‟ secret of unique kind of lace made of agaves fibres. Benedictine nunnery exists in Hvar since 1664, when two nuns came from island of Rab to Hvar and began its work on the island. Through centuries the nunnery has put its mark on spiritual character of the island but today it is especially renowned throughout the world for its agave lace which is nourished only here in the nunnery through the centennial tradition that is passed from generation to generation.
