Press release No. 4 / Deic / Cologne, June 2006 China International Hardware Show Powered by PRACTICAL WORLD Number of international exhibitors up by 60 per cent Exhibition area occupied by worldwide companies has increased tenfold in three years The China International Hardware Show Powered by PRACTICAL WORLD, which will take place at the Shanghai New International Expo Center from 27th to 29th September 2006, is fully booked. With a record number of 1,600 companies from around 15 countries exhibiting on an area of 70,000 m², the upcoming trade fair — a merger between the China International Hardware Show (CIHS) and PRACTICAL WORLD ASIA — will therefore be among the world’s top three hardware shows. As Asia’s most important fair for the segments of tools; security systems, locks and fittings; builders’ and home improvement/DIY supplies and gardens, it will also be the ideal gateway for international exhibitors that want to gain a successful foothold in the Chinese market. China is the largest export market in the world, and it is continuing to grow. The exhibition space occupied by non-Chinese suppliers this year is up by 60 per cent compared to 2005, clearly reflecting the appeal of the trade fair. In the last three years, the space occupied by exhibitors from around the world has increased almost tenfold. Kuhrt Herbert Marner Dr. Gerd Weber Europe accounts for the strongest growth in foreign exhibitors. German suppliers are occupying an area that is around 20 per cent larger than last year, and an official German presentation will be held once again. This presentation is being organised by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology in cooperation with the Association of the German Trade Fair Vorsitzender des Aufsichtsrates: Oberbürgermeister Fritz Schramma Sitz der Gesellschaft und Gerichtsstand: Köln Amtsgericht Köln, HRB 952 Industry (AUMA) on behalf of the Association of German Tool Manufacturers (FWI). Companies from Italy, Spain and other countries will also be occupying significantly larger stands this year. The space occupied by exhibitors from Taiwan has almost doubled, and the Taiwan Hand Tools Manufacturing Association and the Importers and Exporters Association of Taipei are each organising large group presentations. As a whole, the event will be marked by a high degree of customer loyalty and a large number of first-time exhibitors. Some 40 per cent of the exhibiting companies are new, and many of the returning suppliers are attending for the third time in a row due to their successful presentations in the past. Page 2/4 ACE Hardware taking part for the first time; China to become the world’s largest construction site The high quality of the China International Hardware Show Powered by PRACTICAL WORLD is demonstrated by the fact that ACE Hardware from the USA will be taking part for the first time this year. ACE is one of North America’s leading traders of hardware and builders’/DIY supplies. It supplies more than 4,600 independent hardware and DIY retailers in 68 countries, and there are already 70 ACE stores in the Asia-Pacific region. Economic forecasts for the region show that ACE and other companies would be wise to step up their activities in Asia. China is becoming the world’s largest construction site, closer attention is being paid to high quality, the property market is booming, and demand will rise considerably as a result of events like the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai. Visitors from around the world; 90 per cent involved in decision-making Also unparalleled in the region is the international background of the visitors and their degree of decision-making authority. According to independent surveys, decision-makers accounted for over 90 per cent of the visitors at the previous trade fairs. The top countries in terms of visitors are the USA, Canada, Germany, Japan, the UK and Italy. The two most important reasons mentioned for attending the fair are to gather information and to procure products. The fair perfectly meets visitors’ needs in this regard, which is why the organisers — the China National Hardware Association and Koelnmesse GmbH — expect to welcome around 35,000 visitors to the forthcoming event. Page 3/4 Online registration for free admission Visitors can register online in advance at www.cihs-practicalworld.com. Doing so entitles them to free admission to the trade fair and use of the “expressway” service when they arrive, allowing them to avoid the queues. In addition, Koelnmesse GmbH will be providing its all-encompassing service, which is already familiar to participants of the world-leading Cologne-based fairs that PRACTICAL WORLD ASIA is based on: spoga/gafa and the INTERNATIONAL HARDWARE FAIR / PRACTICAL WORLD. The services available range from travel arrangements and hotel bookings to on-site support. Further information on visas and other matters can be found at www.cihs-practicalworld.com. An unmissable event from 27th to 29th September 2006; new sequence of days The next China International Hardware Show Powered by PRACTICAL WORLD will take place at the Shanghai New International Expo Center from 27th to 29th September 2006.
