									Young Adult Literature Symposium Student Travel Stipend
About the Student Stipend: YALSA’s Young Adult Literature Symposium Student Stipend will enable one qualified recipient to attend the symposium, which will be held in Albuquerque, NM November 57, 2010. One stipend up to $1,000 will be awarded to a student enrolled in an ALA Accredited MLS program with a focus on serving young adults in a library setting. Applicant must be a student during the dates of the YA Lit Symposium, November 5-7, 2010. Applications must be received in the YALSA office by January 4, 2010 via email to yalsa@ala.org. Application Guidelines: 1. All applications must be submitted electronically on this official application form. 2. All applicants must be current, personal members of YALSA at the time of application. 3. Application, resume, and supporting statement must be sent electronically as one document. (One attachment per e-mail, one e-mail per applicant). 4. All documents must be named the last name of the applicant, underscore, and name of document. IE. gilbert_application.doc 5. Supporting statements may be sent separately by library science professor. 6. Word document or PDFs will be accepted. 7. Applications should be submitted as an attachment to YALSA at yalsa@ala.org. 8. Applications are due no later than January 4, 2010. Requirements for Applicants:  YALSA personal membership  Enrollment in an ALA Accredited MLS program  Previous recipients not eligible  Incomplete submissions will not be considered. Criteria for Selection:      Candidate's commitment to young adult library services Candidate’s desired learning outcomes for attending the conference Candidate’s financial and professional development needs Strength of supporting statement Enrollment in an ALA Accredited MLS program (full or part time)

6. In 250 words or less, please describe what it is that you hope to get out of attending the 2010 Young Adult Literature Symposium: 7. Supporting Statement Have a library science professor who is familiar with your work and professional goals comment on your qualifications and how attendance at the 2010 YALSA Young Adult Literature Symposium will benefit your future career as a young adult librarian. The supporting statement can either be emailed with your application or separately. The supporting statement must be emailed to yalsa@ala.org no later than midnight January 4th, 2010. Be sure your name and “supporting statement” appear in the subject line. 7. Statement of Understanding I understand that the up to $1,000 awarded is only for conference expenses (registration fees, travel, housing, meal per diem) and in order to receive my full award, I must provide original receipts to the YALSA Office. If selected, I agree to submit a summary of learning experiences gained from the conference by Jan. 1, 2011. I further understand that if I win the stipend and for some reason cannot attend the conference that I must notify the YALSA Office by Aug. 15, 2010 and will forfeit the award. I am also aware that if I win this stipend I am not eligible to apply in future years.
