24 August 2009 APPLICATION FOR FUNDING/SPONSORSHIP PROJECT: JOSEPH’S ALIMINIUM CAN & PAPER-MAKING ART BUSINESS INTRODUCTION My name is Ninette Potgieter and I am co-founder of a non-profit organisation called Free Life on Earth (FLOE) [read more about us in the short introduction below]. I have recently met an amazing South African named Joseph Diliza. Joseph’s story [refer Annexure ‘A’] is something I have put together in the hope to assist Joseph in attracting funding. I would like to point out that Joseph did not come to me, but I found Joseph and cannot help but believe that I have met him for a reason. There are numerous ways in which a sponsor or funder can assist Joseph. I have approached Joseph, on behalf of my organisation, to see if there is some way that FLOE can assist in getting some projects off the ground. In Annexure “A” you will find a description of what Joseph dreams of doing and how his planned activities will be an opportunity to uplift people in his community. The projects we have in mind will not only teach his community new skills, but will also teach people the value of re-using and recycling certain waste items and making use of alien vegetation to create paper and paper products. FLOE, however, is a young nonprofit organisation lacking funds. It is for this reason that we are approaching you for assistance. INTRODUCTION TO FREE LIFE ON EARTH Free Life on Earth (FLOE) is a voluntary association (non-profit organisation) based in Cape Town South Africa. The founders of FLOE are Ninette Potgieter and David Lipschitz. FLOE’s main objective is: The promotion of, and education and training programmes/initiatives relating to environmental awareness, greening, clean-up and sustainable development projects. We promote the use of renewable energy and aim to encourage and teach people how to lead more ‘eco-conscious’ lifestyles. Until such time as we have funding available, we are achieving our objectives through the following actions (performed in our voluntary capacity in our spare time):1. Recruiting of members. We encourage people to join the “FLOE” movement. By joining, members agree to start taking steps in their own lives to start reducing their negative impact on the environment. In addition, for every member who joins, we ask the new member to encourage at least two friends to also join. 2. We have started a few small projects (without any funding). These projects are listed on our website and can be found on the following webpage:- http://www.freelifeonearth.org/projects.htm. For more information on Free Life on Earth, please feel free to browse our website, newsblog and Facebook Group.

FUNDING PROPOSALS FOR JOSEPH DILIZA Ideally, we would like to see Joseph’s fairly modest dream become a reality, however, we are aware of the obstacles faced in trying to obtain funding for large projects. It is for this reason that we are offering alternatives. Below you will find some suggestions, however, please first read Annexure “A” before proceeding:REFER TO ANNEXURE “C” FOR BUDGET ALLOCATIONS FOR EACH OF THE BELOW MENTIONED PROPOSALS OPTION 1 – SPONSORSHIP OF GOODS NEEDED Joseph lost most of his tools and stock in the fire. Annexure “B” is a list of items that Joseph needs in order to help rebuild his business. OPTION 2 – NEW PREMISES Joseph is looking for new premises to operate his business from. Any suggestions / ideas would be most welcome. Should Joseph find premises, he will be requiring sponsorship of rental for a few months to help get things off the ground. OPTION 3 – KICK START SPONSORSHIP To help Joseph get back on his feet, a donation amounting to his average monthly income would be of great assistance. Joseph’s average monthly income (before the fire) was R4000. It will take Joseph a few months to get back on his feet. OPTION 4 – FUNDING OF PROPOSED PROJECTS Joseph and I have come up with two ideas for projects:A. “PUTTING ALIENS TO GOOD USE” – Joseph has indicated that the bark of black wattle (alien vegetation) is ideal for making paper. There are also other alien vegetation species found locally that can be used in making paper products. The idea is to put together a training programme/workshop which will teach interested people from his community what alien vegetation is, how to correctly identify it, and which species of alien vegetation are suitable for paper making. The programme will then train the individuals how and where to collect the alien vegetation and how to make paper and paper products using it. Joseph and Ninette will work together (with the assistance of other organisations where needed) in developing the training programme. Joseph will then hold the workshops himself and will also train others to hold such workshops. B. “CLEAN-UP-LIFT CREATIONS” – This will be an educational upliftment project (based in the Khaylitsha community) in which workshops will be held where people will learn how to make sellable items out of certain waste items such as tin/aluminium cans, tetrapak, recycled paper, cardboard, plastic and glass. The project will encourage people to clean up their community and will incorporate Joseph’s idea of giving a student an item and seeing what ideas the student can come up with. The more ideas that students come up with, the more sellable items will be identified and created.
