Muslim Prayer for Peace

The following is a universal prayer compiled from the supplications of a number of religious traditions: Islam, Christianity, Hinduism, Judaism, African Traditional, Native American… In the name of God, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful Our Lord! We praise You Lord of the universes, Who has created us and made us into tribes and nations That we may know each other and not despise each other. Almighty and Everloving God, yours are all things in heaven and earth; Mercifully hear the urgent supplications of your people, stay the hand of the violent, and grant us peace. Dear Lord, we praise you for the multitudes of women, men, young people, and children who, across the earth, are striving to be witnesses to peace, trust and reconciliation. Oh Lord, You are Peace. From You comes Peace, To You Returns Peace. Revive us with a salutation of Peace, and lead us to your abode of Peace Grant us, Our Creator, a vision of your world as your love would have it: a world where the weak are protected, and none go hungry or poor; where the riches of creation are shared, and everyone can enjoy them; where different peoples and cultures live in harmony and mutual respect; where peace is built with justice, and justice is guided by love. Our Lord, give us the inspiration and courage to build this world. Almighty God guide the people of the world to justice and truth, and establish among us peace which is the fruit of righteousness. Almighty God, we acknowledge our common origin. Fill the hearts of all with the fire of your love and the desire to ensure justice for all. For those who have fallen victim to hatred and inhumanity, for those loved ones left behind to mourn, for the souls of those whose hearts are cold, Lord, hear our prayer. For the children who are being born into this world of conflict and violence,

for women and mothers who suffer needlessly, Lord, hear our prayer. For those who have been forced into unemployment, who long to return to work, for those who struggle to support their families, Lord, hear our prayer. For the soldiers who are misguided in thinking their bullets will bring peace, for those who feel called to conscientiously object to military orders, for those who are the victims of the weapons we manufacture, Lord, hear our prayer. For the children who cry in their beds at night and wonder 'what have I done?', for the mothers and fathers who must try to explain the unexplainable, Lord, hear our prayer. For the children who have died at the hands of people, for the children who live painfully because of AIDS, Lord, hear our prayer. For the women who are fearful of the danger in their homes and on their streets, for the women who seek to be equally human and with dignity, Lord, hear our prayer. O God, Open our eyes that we may see the needs of others; our ears that we may hear their cries; our hearts that we may feel their anguish and their joy. Let us not be afraid to defend the oppressed, the poor, the powerless, because of the anger and might of the powerful. Show us where love and hope and faith are needed, and use us to bring them to those places. Open our ears and eyes, our hearts and lives, that we may do the work of justice and peace. Lord, make us instruments of your peace. Where there is hatred, let us sow love, Where there is injury, pardon, Where there is doubt, faith, Where there is despair, hope, Where there is darkness, light, where there is sadness, joy. O Divine Master, grant that we may not so much seek To be consoled as to console, To be understood as to understand, To be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive, It is in pardoning that we are pardoned, It is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Lead us from the unreal to the Real. Lead us from darkness to light. Lead us from death to immortality. May there be peace on Earth. May the waters be appeasing. May herbs be wholesome,

and may trees and plants bring peace to all. Let us know peace. For as long as the moon shall rise, For as long as the rivers shall flow, For as long as the sun will shine, For as long as the grass shall grow, Let us know peace. Oh Our Lord! We consult You as You are all Knowing, we seek ability from Your power we ask you for Your great favour. For You have power, but we do not. You have knowledge, but we do not. You know all hidden matters. Oh our Creator and Sustainer, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful. Ameen
