Hi,
I have an Oracle database (8.1.6 − I know it's unsupported, but it's
due to be phased out and so nobody wants to 'waste' time, money and
resource upgrading it) on a Compaq Tru 64 server. Overnight batch
processing is running like a dog and my belief is that the server could
do with a memory upgrade. However, the UNIX performance team are
stating that the memory usage is fine, as 'Nevertheless, both paging
(<2 pages/sec), scan rate (< 10 pages/sec) &
paging space (<10%) are all well below their recommended thresholds of
50
pg/sec, 250 pg/sec & 60% throughout the day.' Below is the output from
vmstat, swapon −s and top taken during the day, a period during which
there is very low activity. Could anyone tell me whether the details
provided support my belief that memory is a primary cause of poor
performance on this server?
Regards,
Rob
P.S. I also have vmstat statistics taken at 5 minute intervals during
one of the overnight processing runs available if anybody would like to
view these.
