Recently, speculative funds continuously pour into China as investors expects an appreciation of Yuan and a rise of domestic interest rates. These flows were putting pressure on the money supply and goods prices. The speculative inflows exceeded 80 billion U.S. dollars for the first quarter of 2008, compared with 120 billion U.S. dollars in 2007 according to at the information from the State Information Center (SIC). China's foreign reserves topped 1.68 trillion U.S. dollars at the end of March according to the information from the People’s Bank of China on April 19. The Yuan broke through the 7-per-1 U.S. dollar mark in April since China scrapped its peg from the dollar in 2005. Ref: Xinhua News
