Entrepreneurship and Innovation
A Celebration of 15th Anniversary of Manchester Business School in Asia
Shenzhen / 13 October 2007 (Saturday) 2:00pm - 5:00pm
“Entrepreneurs need to search purposefully for the sources of innovation, the changes and their symptoms that indicate opportunities for successful innovation. And they need to know and to apply the principles of successful innovation.” - Peter F. Drucker
Nowadays in China, numerous entrepreneurs take risks to start businesses, work inexhaustibly to fulfill their visions, foresee changes and develop new products or services to make use of those changes, and use innovations in technology or processes or marketing to gain competitive advantages. With the high tech boom hitting China and Internet start-ups are popping up in major Chinese metropolises, entrepreneurship has been recognized as an integral element of economic advancement. In the half day seminar, prominent speakers and university professor are invited to share their insights, experience and knowledge on starting and growing ventures. It is also a precious opportunity for networking and interaction with like minded peers revolving around issues of spirit of entrepreneurship, innovative thinking and business opportunities.

Simon Tam's association with Manchester dated back to 1979, when he went there to pursue a Master of Science Degree in Management Education and Organizational Change, housed within UMIST. He subsequently went on to join the Business School at the University of Hong Kong and began a life-long devotion to understanding entrepreneurship. For over twenty years, he was fascinated by the question of “what do entrepreneurs do?" and attempted to build a new framework to make sense of their work. In the course of seeking understanding, he made some interesting discoveries and used those discoveries to produce a new paradigm, an MBA course on entrepreneurship, to develop a unique consultation approach, to facilitate corporations to transform, and to help numerous aspiring entrepreneurs to build competencies. He has recently left the University of Hong Kong so that he could put his theory to test. He is now one of the founder entrepreneurs of two successful companies, and founder of one US-Hong Kong joint venture which is still at the stage of struggling. All these experiments will be used to inform his theory construction work.
