ITEM/REPORT:     20      CONSULTATION PROCESS IN RELATION TO CURRENTLY
                         UNLIT ROADS AND UNLIT AREAS BEING CONSIDERED
                         FOR NEW LIGHTING.

REASON FOR THE   The purpose of the report was to seek Members approval of those
DECISION:        locations to be included in the Unlit Programme of the Street Lighting
                 PFI. The decision supported the Council’s work within the Priority
                 Theme Sustainable Communities – To deliver improvements in our
                 towns and villages. This had the outcome of improving lighting levels
                 which will be achieved by providing new lights where currently the
                 locations are unlit.


ASSESSMENT OF    The results of the consultation process had been considered by the
OPTIONS:         Cabinet Member for Highways, Transportation and Planning who had
                 selected a list of schemes for design and implementation.

1.0 PURPOSE OF REPORT

1.1 The purpose of the report is to inform Members of the progress of the PFI project for
    the months of August, September and October 2009. The information will support the
    Council’s work with Priority Themes Sustainable Communities – To deliver
    improvements in our towns and villages. This will have the outcome of improving
    lighting levels which will be achieved by providing an excellent street lighting
    infrastructure.



2.0 ANALYSIS

     2.1 AIMS AND DESIRED OUTCOMES

           2.1.1    To undertake a street lighting PFI project which will lead to significant
                    improvements in the Council’s street lighting infrastructure.

      2.2 BACKGROUND INFORMATION

          2.2.1   One of the main functions of the Street Lighting Executive is to consider
                  the performance and progress of the PFI project.

          2.2.2   Attached at Appendix A to this report are the progress reports for
                  August, September and October 2009.


3.0    RECOMMENDATIONS

It is recommended that Members note the Progress Reports for August, September and
October 2009.
