The prestigious Premier’s Good Governance Awards ceremony reached a climax as Murchison and Addington Hospital’s remained from the five short-listed hospitals to determine the first prizewinner! Murchison Hospital claimed the silver award to add to its collection of awards received in the last few years. About a two years ago the hospital became the first Kwazulu Natal Health institution to achieve health services accreditation from the Council for Health Services Accreditation in South Africa (COHSASA), on its first attempt from among 30 other institutions. The hospital also recently achieved its “Baby Friendly Status” from the Department of Health. From left to right: Miss N. Gumede, Mrs J. Le Roux (Batho Pele Facilitators), Mrs J. Nxasane, Mrs T. Ntleko, Mr V. Reddy (Hospital Manager), Dr Bill Hardy, Mrs NNP Ntuli (Nursing Manager) The Hospital Manager, Mr Reddy, says, “It is not due to any individual effort but to the overall effort of all staff in their quest to, “not win an award” but to strive towards customer satisfaction and service excellence. It is this vision that is the driving force that has enabled us to be pacesetters. Hard work and dedication pays dividends and we feel a deep sense of corporative pride in our achievement. The spirit of “Letsema” – i.e. going beyond the call of what one is remunerated for in order to uplift the services is the aspiration of those who concertedly encourage and motivate staff towards service excellence”.
