Virginia Employment Commission
The Virginia Employment Commission processes millions of Employer’s Quarterly Tax
Reports and Employer’s Quarterly Payroll Reports each year. The Commonwealth has a
local bank in Richmond, VA that processes the checks. By regulation, each large
employer submits an electronic tape or diskette each quarter for the tax report and payroll
report. Prior to implementation of the IFP solution, the Employment Commission had to
key in the data from paper reports for all small employers. IFP was installed in 1999 to
process Virginia tax forms and payroll (wage) forms. In 2000, IBM expanded the system
by integrating the IFP solution with IBM Content Manager, IBM’s leading document
management solution. Every day, all repaired document images and associated indices
are imported from the IFP system into the Content Manager Library Server and Object
Server. Through an Enterprise Information Portal (EIP) server, the end user can retrieve
documents on the regular web browser via the State’s intranet. Customer service has
been improved through a reduction in the time it takes end users to get the document
images and data they need to solve the problems reported by their customers.
