Summer Reading Assessment: Poster
At the beginning of the school year, my walls are extremely plain and beige. I
do not want to paint the walls or hang any meaningless wall decorations (or
anymore meaningless wall decorations than I already have). I would like for
my walls to be covered in posters that exhibit all the wonderful novels we read
in Advanced 10th Lit/Comp. The posters will also serve to be educational
resources to the students in my room. The posters need to be decorated to
support the subject or themes of your novel as well as address the following:
Plot: Briefly summarize the plot of the text and explain the novel’s time
structure.
Theme and Underlying Meaning: Explain the major themes and
underlying meanings in your text, and show the students specific
evidence substantiating your assertions.
Characterization: Described the major characters with emphasis on
specific details for character development. As well, address how the
characters develop over the course of the novel. Again, please give specific
evidence.
Symbolism: Give a few examples of symbolism in the novel, especially
symbols that seem universal in nature (archetypes and what not).
Imagery: Give specific examples.
Journey: Explain how the text demonstrates a journey, physical or
otherwise.
Connections: Share connections that you made to the text. They must
include text-to-text and text-to-world.
