How to Add Links, Images, Attachments & Child Pages Links | Images | Attachments | Child Pages | Blank Lines How to Add/Edit Links Within a Confluence Page 1. Log-in as an editor for the Confluence page you wish to add/edit links to using your IU network user-id and password. 2. Highlight the text that you wish to either add a link to or edit an existing link. 3. Click the “Insert/Edit Link” icon from the toolbar. The icon looks like . Note: The browser pop-up blocker may keep you from being able to add an image. Disable the pop-up blocker for that page and then repeat step 3. 4. There are three different types of links that can be added to the selected text (See a, b, c). Each tab in the pop-up window corresponds to one of the three link categories. The tabs are listed below the category it corresponds to the following list. a. External links: Links that lead to outside Confluence i. External Link b. Internal links: Links that lead to other Confluence pages i. Search ii. History iii. Recently Modified c. Files: Links that lead to attachments from within a Confluence site i. Attachments 5. The “Link” textbox contains the pathname for the link that is being done. The “Alias” textbox contains the text that is being linked. Note: The http:// does not have to be present. 7. Inserting an External Link – a. Click the “External Link” tab, b. Place the address of the outside link within the “Enter hypertext” textbox. Note: You must insert the full web address, including http:// in order for this link to work. 8. Inserting a link to an Attachment – a. Click the “Attachments” tab b. Click the attachment that you wish to link to. Note: The “Link” textbox at the top should show the name of the attachment that you have chosen to link to once you have clicked your selection. 9. Inserting an Internal Link – a. Click the “Search,” “History,” OR “Recently Modified” tab b. Click the Confluence page that you wish to link to. This page can be either inside or outside your Confluence site. Note: The “Link” textbox at the top should show the name of the Confluence page that you are linking to once you have clicked your selection. 10. Editing an Existing Link – a. Place the cursor within the link that is to be edited. b. Click the “Insert/Edit Link” icon from the toolbar. The icon looks like . c. Once you have selected the link you want, click the “OK” button at the bottom of the pop-up window. Your text is now linked. How to Add/Edit Images Within a Confluence Page 1. Log-in as an editor for the Confluence page you wish to edit. 2. Click the “Edit” tab at the top of the page. Note: Ensure that the “Rich Text” editing tab is selected. 3. Place the cursor within the editing window where you want the image to appear. 4. Click the “Insert Image/Edit Image” icon from the toolbar. The icon looks like . Note: The browser pop-up blocker may keep you from being able to add an image. Disable the pop-up blocker for that page and then repeat step 4. 5. Within the pop-up window… a. Click the “Browse” button, b. Select the image you want to insert, and c. Click “Open.” 6. Type the name of the image file in the “File Name” box. a. If the image is a large one, you may want to make it a thumbnail so that it does not take over the entire page. Check the radio button for thumbnails if you wish to do make the image a thumbnail. b. The default alignment for images is “left.” If you want an alignment other than left, choose from the options listed in the “Alignment” drop-down menu. If the image does not appear in the editing window after completing step 9… a. Return to the “Insert/Edit Images” pop-up window (Step 4), b. Log-in as an editor for the Confluence site that the attachment will be associated with. 2. Click the tab titled “Attachments“ (located next to the “Edit” tab). 3. At the bottom of the page, click the “Browse” button. 4. Find the file you want to attach and click “Open.” 5. Once you have selected the file that you wish you attach… a. Insert a comment in the textbox to the right describing the file that you are attaching. This comment line is simply to help others know what the file is when it is listed as an attachment. 6. Now that you have the file selected and the comment inserted… a. Click the “Attach File(s)” button at the bottom of the screen. Note: If you wish to attach multiple files at one time, click the link “Attach more files” at the bottom of the page and more entry fields will appear. 7. The file that you attached should now appear at the top of the attached files list. Log-in as an editor for the Confluence page that will be the parent page. 2. Click the “Add Page” link that is located in the upper right corner of the window. a. The “Add Page” link can be viewed from any location within the parent Confluence page. In other words, you don’t have to be in edit mode in order to add a new child page. 3. An empty page will appear ready to be edited. a. Give the page a title, b. Insert the information you want on the page, and c. Save the page. Hit “Enter” on the keyboard and the blank line will be added. 2. To not have a blank line after your text – a. Press “Shift” AND “Enter” at the same time. The cursor should go directly below your line of text. 3. To get rid of a blank line – a. Place the cursor at the end of the line of text that is below the blank line. b. Press “Backspace” until that line of text is directly beside the previous line of text. c. Press “Shift” AND “Enter” at the same time.
