BLOGGING
1. How to create your own blog account (New Blogger) Go to www.blogger.com. Scroll down to ‚Create a blog in 3 easy steps.‛ Click on the orange arrow.

Click on the orange arrow to begin.

Step 1: Create a Google Account (If you already have an account with Google (e.g., gmail), click on ‚sign in first‛). a) You need to provide an existing email address. b) Your password needs to be at least 6 characters long. Write down your email address and password. c) Your display name should be your real name or your nickname. d) Type in the word that you see (here: ‚anonca‛). e) Don’t forget to check off the box beside ‚I accept the Terms of Service‛. f) Click on the orange arrow. o o o o o o Email address (this will be your username) Password (6 characters long) Display name (your name/nickname) Word verification Acceptance of Terms Click ‚Continue‛

Step 2: Choose a title for your blog (you can change it later) and an address for your blog. For example: http://mylifeintoronto.blogspot.com. Sometimes, blog addresses are already taken. Click on ‚Check Availability‛ to see if the blog address you want is available. Write down your blog address! Type in word verification (here: ‚advsoi‛). Click on the orange arrow. o o Choose a blog title Choose a blog address (make sure you write it down!) Word verification

Step 3: Choose a template (your blog design). You can always change it later.

Choose a blog template you like. You can later change it completely or personalize it by changing the colours.

Step 4: Start posting. Once you see the following screen, your blog has been created. Click on the orange arrow to go to your blog.

2. How to post, edit and configure your blog. In order to post, you need to open your dashboard. There, you’ll find 3 folders (Posting, Settings, Template). 1) Posting. This is the folder where you write (click on ‚Create‛) or edit (‚Edit Posts‛) your entries. Make sure you click on the orange button ‚Publish‛ in order to publish your entry on your blog. If you click on ‚Save as Draft,‛ your entry will be stored in your account, but it will not appear on your blog. Click this icon to add a picture to your blog.

You can change the font, make your font bold/italics, or change the colours of your font.

Click this icon to embed a link in a text. For example, ‚I study at York University.‛ (When you click on ‘York University, it will take you to York U website).

Click ‘Publish’ to publish your post.

2) Editing you posts. In order to make corrections to your entries, go to ‚Edit Posts‛ and click on the entry you want to edit.

To edit your post, click here. 3. How to add link, edit personal information, add widgets, and personalize your blog. 1) Adding Page Elements. Go to the ‚Template‛ tab and click on the ‚Page Elements‛ subheading. Click on ‚Add a Page Element‛ and choose the page elements you want to add.

Click on ‚Add a Page Element‛ to choose from a selection of widgets to put on the sidebar of your blog (see below).

Click on ‚About Me‛ to edit your personal information.

These are some of you choices.

Choose from a selection of widgets to put on your blog. ‚Link List‛ will allow you to create links to your favourite people, blogs, or websites.

2) Creating a Link List. Click on ‚Link List‛ to add a link of your favourite people, blogs, or web sites. In the ‚title‛ field, write My Link List. In the ‚New Site URL‛ type in the URL address of a blog/website you want to create a link to, and in the ‘New Site Name’ type in the name of the blog/website.

Create the title for your Link List, type in the URL for the site, and the Site Name. Then, make sure to click ‚Save Changes‛ to save the information.

To delete a link, click ‚delete‛ beside the link you want to delete.

The link list above includes a link to YUELI and a link to the University of Toronto. 3) Personalize your blog. You can change the colours on your blog. Click ‚Fonts and Colours‛ and then choose on the left what you want to change (e.g., ‚text colour‛ or ‚page background colour‛) and then choose a colour from the chart in the middle.

Click on ‚Fonts and Colours‛ to change the colours of your blog. Choose what you want to change (e.g., ‚text colour‛) and then choose a new colour. Then, click ‚Save Changes‛. 4) Make your blog private. Go to ‚Settings‛ tab and click on ‚Basic‛ subheading. You can change your blog title here (if you’re not happy with the one you chose when signing up). To make your blog private, click ‘Add your Blog to our listings?’ – NO (it’s ‘yes’ by default).

In order to make your blog private (not listed on the Internet), you need to go to ‚Settings‛ and then change ‚Add your Blog to our listings?‛ to NO.

4. How to Sign In to your Blog Account. To sign in (open your blog), go to www.blogger.com, and click on ‚New Blogger‛. Sign in with your username (email address) and your password. To sign in, go to www.blogger.com and click on ‚New Blogger‛

Dashboard. Once you sign in, you will see your dashboard (the control board). Here, you can create a new blog (‚Create a Blog‛), start a new post (‚New Post‛), go to posts (‚Posts‛), go to settings (‚Settings‛), or change the layout (‚Layout‛).

Click ‚Posts‛ to access your posts, ‚Settings‛ to go to your settings tab, and ‚View Blog‛ to view your blog. Click on ‚New Post‛ to create a new post.
