DOWNTOWN PARKING INFORMATION NOTICE
WELCOME DOWNTOWN CUSTOMERS In an effort to make a limited number of free parking spaces available to the greatest number of downtown customers, the downtown business community, in conjunction with the City of Salem, has established a Downtown Parking District (please see the map below). Within this district, CUSTOMERS MAY PARK FREE. If you are a customer, the City of Salem hopes that your visit to downtown Salem was enjoyable. This program was designed to provide you accessible parking. If you are a frequent downtown customer, you may want to enroll in our Very Important Parker Program (VIPP). The VIPP program is used by City enforcement officers to easily identify frequent customers downtown. Knowing which vehicles belong to customers avoids the issuance of unnecessary informational notices. All information obtained is kept confidential and is not released as public record or given to marketing firms. For more information, please contact the Parking Services Division at 503-588-6133. ATTENTION EMPLOYEES, STUDENTS AND VOLUNTEERS The purpose of this notice is to promote voluntary compliance. Employees are encouraged to take advantage of the many off-street parking alternatives. Please see the map of the Downtown Parking District included below for parking permit information and off-street parking alternatives. If you are an employee or other person that is prohibited from parking in the free customer area, please be advised that this is a violation of SRC 102.045. While it is the City’s preference that you comply with this regulation, future violations shall result in the issuance of a $100.00 citation (first occurrence). Repeat offenders will be issued a $175.00 citation (second occurrence) and $250.00 citation for each occurrence thereafter. This informational notice may have been placed on your vehicle for a variety of reasons: 1) The number of occurrences your vehicle was observed downtown; 2) A business owner/manager/employee may have noted the frequency of which your vehicle was parked in front of a business; or 3) You may have been observed parking a vehicle and entering your place of employment. In order to assure the broadest range of services to individuals with disabilities, the City of Salem can arrange, with sufficient notice, a sign language interpreter, assistive listening device, large print material, or other accommodations.
