Wearing of goggles during school swimming lessons

Dear Parents, Although it is the recommendation of the Education Committee that children should not wear goggles during school swimming lessons, it is acknowledged that some children are more confident wearing them and therefore safer in the water. If you feel it is necessary for your child to wear goggles during school swimming lessons would you kindly complete and return this form to school then your child(ren) will be allowed to wear swimming goggles during school swimming lessons. The only request we make is that you ensure your child(ren) has/have read and understood the attached advice concerning the use and maintenance of goggles, particularly the paragraph headed CAUTION/EYE SAFETY WARNING. Yours sincerely,

HOW TO FIT YOUR GOGGLES

The Suction Test Press goggles to your eyes to achieve a slight suction effect. If the goggles sticks to you face momentarily, then this indicates a good fit. Adjusting the Headstrap The headstrap is used to hold the goggles in place. Tighter is not necessarily better, as this may cause marking around the eyes. Adjust the tension on the headstrap until a comfortable fit is achieved. Fitting your Goggles With goggles in position on face, stretch the headstrap over the back of the head. Headstrap should rest on the crown of the head at about 45 degree angle to prevent leakage. If leaking persists, continue to make adjustments. Caring for your Goggles To obtain the maximum benefit, keep lenses free from dirt and grease. Wash gently in clear cold water after each use. DO NOT wipe or rub the inside lens of the goggle. Use Antifog drops to prolong the life of the fog-resist system. CAUTION/EYE SAFETY WARNING Use care in adjusting and removing all swim goggles especially when wet. Do not use goggles if skin is broken. Discontinue use immediately if irritation arises.    DO NOT - Dive into the water wearing goggles without proper instruction. DO NOT - Swim underwater below 2 metres. DO NOT - Pull them away from your face, they can spring back and hurt your eyes.

To remove goggles safely Take hold of the eye pieces and lift them gently up onto your forehead and push them over the top of your head.
