Notes on Waste Generation Rates used in Model:
1 Step-Down facilities: Because of very low surveyed waste generation rates, a fixed TOTAL MASS of 20 kg per institution has been used in the model. 2 Mining, Rehabilitation and Psychiatric hospitals: as the surveyed values are comparatively low, we have doubled them for purposes of the model, in order to be conservative. 3 For other cases, the surveyed results have been treated as "small" samples. With small samples, there is a risk that the mean of such sample is less than the mean of the actual population. Therefore, in accordance with the procedure set out in Annexure 3.3, we have used the mean of the sample, the standard error of the sample and the relevant "t" coefficients to derive Model values, such that there is a 90% probability that the Model value is greater than the actual population mean.
