1.

Primary Purpose of the Job Manage the overall running of the Hospice to ensure exemplary patient care, ensure financial sustainability, ensure operational efficiencies and meet the needs of stakeholders

Major Task Headings With the executive team develop a strategy for Hospice. Develop and implement strategy for operational management to meet agreed Hospice performance plans within agreed budgets and timescales. Establish and maintain appropriate systems for measuring necessary aspects of operational management and development.

Monitor, measure and report on operational issues, opportunities and development plans and achievements within agreed formats and timescales Manage and develop direct reporting staff Ensure activities meet with and integrate with Hospice requirements for all statutory requirements including; risk management, quality management, health and safety, legal stipulations, environmental policies and SANC duty of care Maintain awareness and knowledge of contemporary Leadership, Management and Palliative Care theory and methods and provide suitable interpretation to executive, managers and staff within the organisation

Detailed Description Key Performance Areas

5.1

With the executive team develop a strategy for Hospice. Develop and implement strategy for operational management to meet agreed Hospice performance plans within agreed budgets and timescales. Coordinate with the executive the formulation of a Hospice strategy Develop operational strategies for all areas such as HR, finance, clinical, marketing etc. Prepare annual budget, operating plan and project plan

5.2

Establish and maintain appropriate systems for measuring necessary aspects of operational management and development Develop, monitor and evaluate processes which are in place to measure efficiency and effectiveness of all Departments e.g. Clinical, Marketing, Finance, HR, Fundraising etc Manage risks and quality improvement processes in all Departments Develop, monitor and evaluate systems in place to ensure HPCA standards are met at all times

Monitor, measure and report on operational issues, opportunities and development plans and achievements within agreed formats and timescales Submit monthly reports to Board Link between Board and staff Monitor and evaluate operating plan

Manage and develop direct reporting staff Ensure staff are recruited, inducted, evaluated, developed and disciplined in accordance with Hospice requirements and budget

Maintain awareness and knowledge of contemporary leadership, management and palliative care theory and methods and provide suitable interpretation to executive, managers and staff within the organisation New / international trends are reported upon In-service training is organised on a regular basis All staff have development plans

5.6

Ensure activities meet with and integrate with statutory and Hospice requirements for risk management, quality management, health and safety, legal stipulations, environmental policies and SANC duty of care Meet standard requirements of HPCA / COHSASA Ensure Hospice complies with all applicable laws 1) Income Tax Act, 2) Labour Relations Act, 3) Basic Conditions of Employment Act, 4) Compensation for Occupational injuries and Diseases Act, 5) Employment Equity Act, 6) Skills Development Act, 7) Unemployment Insurance Contributions Act, 8) The Protected Disclosures Act 9) SA Council for Social Service Professions 10) Nursing council
