Quick Start Guide Uploading a website before/during propagation Before submitting a transfer request, it is important that you complete the below steps to ensure that the transfer progresses seamlessly and website downtime is prevented: 1. 2. Transfer any existing content from the previous hosting provider to your new hosting account with Hetzner. Create email accounts on your new Hetzner account. Once your domain has been transferred to Hetzner successfully, it will take 24 to 48 hours before your website will be visible on one of our servers due to domain propagation. About domain propagation: When a visitor types your domain name into their Web browser, their request is referred to a nameserver that indicates the physical location (the IP address) of your domain on the Internet. When your site location changes to a new IP address, or when a new domain name is added, nameservers around the world must be notified of the change. This process is referred to as propagation. Propagation normally requires 24 to 48 hours. During this period, if you are transferring your domain, some nameservers will refer to the old location of your site and some to the new location. Therefore, a visitor accessing your site may be directed to either the old or new location. It is usually best to keep your previous hosting account active until your transfer is verified as having taken place. Uploading website content onto your new hosting account Hetzner provides you with unlimited FTP access to your account 24x7x365, allowing you to setup and change or maintain your website at any time. Use the following FTP access details to upload your site content before the transfer takes place: FTP Address: <IP ADDRESS> FTP Username: <FTP-USER> FTP Password: <FTP-PASSWORD> Once propagation is completed, the domain name can be used as the FTP Host instead of the IP address indicated above.
