Local Boys & Girls Clubs Invite Community to Celebrate Day for Kids Annual Celebration Encourages Adults and Children to Spend Meaningful Time Together
Phoenix, AZ – August 20, 2009 - The Valley of the Sun Boys & Girls Clubs has announced that they will host a community-wide event to commemorate Boys & Girls Clubs (BGC) Day for Kids on Friday, September 11 and Saturday, September 12, 2009. Boys & Girls Clubs locations throughout the Valley will be hosting as variety of fun events to provide adults and kids an opportunity to take a break from their busy lives and celebrate the wonder of life and the fulfillment of spending time together. Unlike many other countries, America does not have an official day to celebrate its children. Boys & Girls Clubs of America, along with the support of other leading youth-serving organizations, is working to change that by establishing a Saturday in September each year as BGC Day for Kids. Created as a day to foster relationships between adults and children, the mission of BGC Day for Kids is to establish a day to celebrate and honor American children through the gift of meaningful time. Research shows that when adults spend meaningful time with kids it helps them develop a positive selfimage and a sense of belonging, usefulness and purpose. Three separate Boys & Girls Clubs organizations serve the Valley: Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale; Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Phoenix; and Boys & Girls Clubs of the East Valley. Each is committed to providing the youth of its community with quality, life-enhancing programs in a safe, accepting environment. Combined, the three organizations deliver quality programs to more than 75,000 youth. Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Phoenix activities will take place on Friday, September 11. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale and Boys & Girls Clubs of the East Valley will be commemorating the day on Saturday, September 12.
