By the end of the module the students should be able to: 1. Translate drawn information into a descriptive and tabulated form 2. Interpret and apply aspects of the Standard method of Measurement (SMM) to a building project. 3. Measure building work from various drawn forms, in accordance with recognised practice and to derive cost components of the work 4. Produce a written ‘Specification of Work’ to comply with client requirements and to facilitate the establishment of unit rates. 5. Prepare items for inclusion in Bills of Quantities and related documentation The purpose and role of building measurement; The Standard method of Measurement (SMM); Procedure for taking-off dimensions from drawings; Transferring dimensions to Bills of Quantities; Pricing building work; Tendering procedure; Identify sources of data and deriving and illustrating the use of unit rates Single Module ~ 100 study hours: This module will be delivered through a combination of lectures, seminars and laboratory work.
