The Pirate Club Constitution Club Purpose To express love for the pirate life of seeking out adventure and treasure and the salty air blowing through out hair. We figure out things to do and do them. Titles and Roles of Club Officers Captain - Decides where we're going First Mate - Makes sure people stay in line Accountant - Manages our money until it is buried Doctor - Fixes people Swabbers/Crew - Swab the deck Definition of a Member One who is dedicated to the life and ideals of a pirate. Thirst for adventure, and the fun parts of life. Methods of Selecting Club Officers Duels. Nature of Club Meetings Chaotic and confusing. Method of Adopting the Constitution Force and violence, and much arguing. Constitutional Amendment Procedures Captain makes amendments as necessary and if the crew dislikes it, MUTINY. Statement of Non-Exclusivity Everyone with a sense of adventure can be a pirate. Replace the following quote with "Pirate" each time you see "X", because X marks the spot. The Pirate Club Constitution I. Purpose and Methods of Realizing Said Objectives a. The purpose of The Pirate Club is to express love for the pirate life of seeking out adventure and treasure and the salty air blowing through our hair. We research interesting activities to do and do them. b. The various activities we will be doing include: Exploring, making various related crafts (maps, flags, etc), learning pirate history (famous pirates, songs, etc), and general social hanging out. Membership/Crewship a. General membership/Crewship is defined by one who is dedicated to the thirst for adventure and having fun in life. b. Members/Crew can only run for an official position if they attend with sufficient consistency (at least 50% of all meetings). c. All members/crew must be subscribed to the list serve. Officers a. The Club officers will consist of the Captain, the First Mate, the Scribe, the Accountant, and the Cook. b. The duties of the Captain shall include: i. Being ultimately responsible for the success of the club and all of its decisions ii. Scheduling, organizing, reserving room space and conducting club events and meetings iii. Familiarizing oneself with the procedures of the Student Union as outlined in the Student Union Club Leader Guidebook iv. Maintaining a list of active members and inactive members c. The duties of the First Mate shall include: i. Aiding the Captain in their duties and assuming the Captain’s role when s/he is not available ii. Acting as a liaison to other Student Union Organizations iii. Making sure all other officers are accomplishing their duties d. The duties of the Scribe shall include: i. Advertising all events and meetings of the club ii. Maintaining the club website and list serve iii. Writing down the events of the club meeting e. The duties of the Accountant shall include: i. Acting as the financial liaison for the club ii. Familiarizing oneself with the procedures of the Finance Board f. The duties of the Cook shall include: i. Taking care of snack matters at meetings Elections of Officers a. Elections will take place within the last three weeks of spring semester b. The Captain shall remain Captain unless a mutiny occurs c. A mutiny shall consist of a majority of the crew voting a new Captain at any point in the year when a majority of the crew are present d. Other officers will be elected by a simple majority. e. Elections for Executive officers will not be held simultaneously, but rather in succession so that a student who loses one election may run again. Meetings a. Club meetings shall be called by the Captain at least once per calendar month. Usually meetings will be once every two weeks. II. III. IV. V. VI. VII. VIII. b. There will be two types of meetings; Activities, and Hang outs i. Activity meetings will be when there is a certain activity we arrange to do. ii. Hang out meetings will be when we socialize and come up with ideas for adventures and activities to do, or discuss general pirate life Constitution and Amendments a. The Constitution shall be adopted by a two-thirds vote of members and a mandatory approval by the Captain. b. Amendments shall be adopted by a two-thirds vote of present members and a mandatory approval by the Captain (unless a mutiny occurs). These must include a preceding debate about the amendment in question. c. An updated constitution must be sent to the Club Resource Coordinator any time an amendment is passed. The Pirate Club does not discriminate against members on the basis of sex, race, religion, sexual preference, class, age, nationality, or physical ability or peg legs/patches/tattoos.
